Does my 2019 SR5 have Toyota or aftermarket remote start?

So we have a 2019 SR5 (non-premium), it was purchased certified used recently, and my wife accidentally discovered that when she clicked the lock button 3 times that the engine started (we had no idea it had remote start, dealer didn't say anything to us about it). I've read that some 4Runners came with remote start installed by Toyota, but I've also read that everyone says with the factory remote start, when you open the door the engine stops. However, with mine, I can open the door and get in and as long as I put the key in and rotate it before touching the brake pedal, the engine stays running. So now I am wondering, does my 4Runner have factory or aftermarket remote start? And if it is aftermarket, where would I look to see what is installed to make sure it wasn't installed poorly? Thanks for any info!

I have a 18’ SR5 that I bought new and it does not have a remote start. If I had to guess, I’d say your remote start is probably aftermarket. The salesman may not have been aware it had it.

I think the best would be to give a visit to dealer you bought it and ask. Because if it's a factory system - it doesn't work correctly, engine is supposed to shut down when you open a door.

Is it relatively easy to pull dash panels off to see if something is installed?

Update: got under there today and saw a “CM-DC3” sticker on a little module, googled and it looks like it’s a Compustar remote start kit. Anyone know if those are known as decent quality products?

It only shuts off on the push button start 4R's I think.

I had a Compustar remote starter on my last Tacoma for 13 years with no problems. It was installed by the dealer, and yes it did stay running after opening the door. I had a new Compustar starter installed by the dealer again on my new 22 4runner. This time the truck does shut off when I open the door. Was told it is a new safety design and it's not worth the time or money to try and get around it.

Base sr5 with Hkey (physical key) doesn't come with remote start. And only push button start will kill the engine with the door. I have Hkey on purpose since i didn't want that "feature" on my 18 sr5p. I have the accessorides remote start and doesn't shut off. They aren't expensive especially if you wait for holiday sales and easy to self install.

I have a 2019 Base SR5 with factory remote start and "Hkey". It does shut off when I open a door.
