H2-H4

When i use H4, i found trouble when i turn the vehicle at slow speed.

 

When Im in L4, I look for trouble.

 

Oh my lord.

Must be the week of 4WD questions.

Google driving in part time 4WD and have a read at whatever pops up. Better than having everyone type a story up.

 

What mode/gear would you recommend on icy/snowy roads in the city.

 

I use H4 when there is snow and ice on road. When its dry I switch to 2H. (No need to stop to switch back and forth. Just change when you are under 50mph)

 

There must be something in the water this week.

 

Driveline bind. Normal when you are using part time 4wd on any high traction surface because your front and rear wheels can't turn at different speeds when you make a turn.

 

In a city, if they have been plowed/sanded you can keep it in 2H until you get to a situation where you don’t have enough traction to accelerate or climb a hill, then go 4H.

unplowed situations, just leave it in 4H.


Be careful on glare ice. Part time 4WD is trickier than AWD on ice and you will slide around more. Go slow and think ahead when braking.

 

Normal, yes, due to the mechanics involved. Should be noted that the binding is not good and could damage the system.

As for driving in a snowy city, 4H is fine if you are driving in a straight line. If the streets are plowed and you have good traction, you will have binding when taking a turn so probably best to shift into 2H for the turn and then back to 4H when you straighten out. If roads are unplowed you can turn in 4H also because your tires can slip.

 

Wow..... just leave it 4L it be alright.

That's all this forum needs...moderators deciding which posts and/or threads are worthy of responses...did 4R.org send you as an emissary?

 

The questions may be redundant but the answers to those repeated questions sometimes reveal something new.

 

Must read for all new to 4x4's;

 

Like 2 threads on which remote starter to get on the first page?
Or a new thread on how long it took to get your 4runner because the first thread had too many answers?
Or what about which lift to get on a 2023? Because its different from a 2010.

There are many threads where answers are quicker through Google than to wait and have someone knowledgeable to reply.

 

It sucks what they do there but I'm just referring to multiple threads about the same thing.

That’s a nice reference. A lot of the ‘splainin’ on this board is heavy on the theory and the why, but a little light on the the what and the what’s-this-button-for-and-when-do-I-push-it practicalities.

 

The best way I've heard of for searching is to type your inquiry into your favorite internet search engine followed by site:4runners.com/ - that will give you results from this forum. Like this:

Or

White lettering in or out site:4runners.com/

 

When will they learn how to search?
They don't even need to sign in to this forum. Searching Google will yield results from both forums.

 

There’s nothing that compels one to read every topic. If something seems redundant it can easily be passed over. (I tried to keep that in the passive voice so it would be less offensive.)
