Hi, new here. Has anybody had issues where the clips have broken off during a routine maintenance (filter check)? Mine has, I had to put back the stock intake. Do I have to buy a whole new TRD kit or can I buy the parts? If so, does anyone know the part number and where to buy? Attach is the pic when I first installed it. Any information would be appreciated.

"Some" would be wrong. Well, by reducing sound, it changes air flow and it improves mpg... by theory anyway. Its so small you'd never really know.

The Metal Clips? You can use the ones from the Stock intake they are the same.
And if you broke the lower part of the body that the clips attach to the part number is PTR03-35090-AF and that comes with 4 clips from Bam wholesale for $58

Thanks for the information. I will go to the site to check if it is the part I need. If it is, that will be great. I will save a a lot of $$$ if I can just order part of the intake. Again, thanks for the help.

did the same as it’s big savings compared to buying the kit as a whole.
    The 2 issues I had:

Vacuum hose was not included and stock one was not long enough so I got one at AutoZone for $3.

the other issue is that it did not come with anything to plug the small hole in the air box. It seems like it’s the same for you (lower right corner of the air box on your picture)
What is that hole for? Does it absolutely need to be plugged?

Does anyone else have the same problem and what did you end up doing?

I found plastic plugs at Home Depot for a few cents they are a little loose fit so I use Silicone sealant to hold them in, The only thing that I have noticed if you don't plug it is Some can hear a whistle noise.

    Just a side note... I have installed 11 of these so far - 2 on Tundra's, 2 FJ Cruisers, 3 Tacoma's and Four 4Runners.

ok thanks, I'll go look for some plugs tomorrow.

Just installed the CAI today and haven't really driven with it yet, so I'll see if i can hear a whistle or not.

Same here. I plugged and silicone the hole on the side. I also plugged up the drain hole in the inside of the box (located new the mounting bolt). I did this so I don't get water in the box (added a snorkel with a cyclone filter).

I would think you can add a CAI temp sensor there that could read live on Torque or other apps. I'm guessing on another motor there is some sort of sensor that goes there?

On the actual Pro's, is there a MAF sensor there? Assume there is one that needs to be relocated form the non Pro intake to the Pro CAI?

I am ready to order TRD CAI ! One more thing: has anyone have actual reading of air intake temperature drop before and after installation of cold air intake?

Never have measured it because Honestly both the Stock unit and the TRD CAI pull the Air in from the same location however the TRD unit has less air flow restrictions and does not have the air noise mufflers chambers that the Stock unit does in the picture below you can see the chambers on the stock unit and then see the TRD Unit.

And I just ordered it strickly for noise. :crapstorm: I wanted a little tone and as someone pointed out, the HPS hose is about the same price just but also because I'm in Derpifornia so I can't even order the HPS hose even though it's made about 30 minutes away from me.

    Words of advice
One thing I always tell people from California, hold on to your original intake. In a few years when it comes time to smog it, it won't pass with the TRD intake. Had this problem with my Tundra but I was able to get a sticker from toyota dealer with original part numbers. It was a pain. Takes 15 minutes to remove and install. Then put your TRD back on after smog. I haven't had to smog my 5th gen 4runner but I have the original in a box in the shed just for this reason.

I definitely keep most parts especially intake related. I always laugh when I see someone in CA looking for a stock intake because they threw theirs out.

I'm assuming its the clips that holds the top of trd intake down. Mine broke during install, I completely cut the little pin off, carefully drilled a hole where the original pin was a put a Carter pin in. It held for 2 years. Good luck

I may or may not have installed the SB intake, which means that my stock intake may or may not be in a box in the garage. I'm done with this pathetic state.

Also OP, the sound from a modified intake is so dang nice.

Hi there. I have an issue I feel the lid is not closing properly. It has just 2 clamps in the front. Did you guys try to find something it can help to keep it close?

Never had a problem with mine. Is everything lined up properly? The clamps definitely are not the most absolute best I have ever seem, but they seem to hold mine adequately.

Yep, I added 2 clips. One on each side close to the hinge. Bent them so they would work as needed.
