Hey all - first time 4runner owner but third time Toyota truck owner! I've had a Tacoma and Tundra before and did some pretty extensive builds on them (https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...h-a-harley-and-now-a-tundra-pic-heavy.480116/). Now, time to build a 4Runner. I purchased this 2020 SR5 from a local dealership with 28K miles for $36K (which I think was a pretty decent deal considering the market)...

Lots of items planned and already ordered. Buckle up because I don't like to waste time getting mods done. :)

Oh, you can't tell from the pictures, but this 4runner's paint and interior aren't great (which is probably why I got a decent deal). First item of business will be a HARD CORE detail done by yours truly.

First things first - new gloss black mirror backs and door handles. I know - probably stupid, but the mirror backs were scratched up anyway so I figured these would look good...

Next step is the detail. Man this paint was pretty rough. Had to do a FULL detail which included:
    • Wash
    • Clay Bar
    • Iron remover
    • Compound
    • Wet sand on some parts
    • Polish
    • Ceramic Prep Spray
    • Ceramic
Took about 20 hours all in to complete. Needless to say I'm a little sore.

    Compound step complete:

    Polish step complete:

Next step - blacking out the rear end with new tail lights, OEM black letter overlays, and a new black exhaust tip...

Twenty hours well spent...your shop/garage looks like a great spot to lay up and get some work done. Nice job on the detail.

Got the lift installed along with the wheels and tires. Got to say, loving how it turned out. I was a little on the fence with grey and bronze wheels with the laces out, but I think it works pretty well!

Nice. I like the door handle and minor covers.

Do they cover the entire handle?

Are those “VORS” rims? I’ve got a similar set waiting for my repaired SUV if it makes it home after. -15 offset?

Roof rack installed today. Yes I did the TRD Pro - frankly I kind of like it and like the price ($600) better than some of the Prinsu racks, though those are pretty sick!

Front end off and time to do a TRD Pro conversion front end, new Morimoto Headlights and LED "raptor" lights, AND new Baja fogs. Loving the orange look of the DRL's and Raptor lights together. After installing them, I think I'm going to combine the DRL's and Raptor lights to run off the same fuse but use a relay and have them run off the battery as opposed to fuses. Not loving fuse taps generally, especially 2 of them. I think it'll be safer if I just go direct to battery. It'll do for now. I'm going to have to redo the wiring anyway just because I've got a Baja light bar on its way and will have to wire that all up off the battery.

I'm going to get flamed, but I used the rough country suspension lift. I know a couple of the guys over there and while they're not Fox/Icon they make a decent (not top tier) suspension over there. For the price it worked for my needs. It doesn't remotely compare to my King suspension on my old Tacoma but that cost me $3K and this one cost me $600. Soo... I can live with it. ;)

I like the stance of your truck. I will research Rough Country. I drive mostly on paved with the occasional beach or unpaved road.

Definitely good enough for mall crawling and some light off-roading. Not sure I'd go full crawling or doing any jumps with these guys.

So I decided to do something a little different with the hood. I've seen a couple pics where guys will wrap their hoods to get rid of the glare from the sun. I ran some wrap right down the center and cut it with some knifeless tape and then wrapped in into the upper grill for continuity. First time using vvivid film and I've got to say it was pretty dang easy to apply compared to 3M (which is what I normally use). Took a couple hours to do, but I think it turned out pretty dang good!

Did the rear TRD Pro valiance today. Not terribly hard but I got plastic shards all over the joint! Covers a bunch of the scratches the rear bumper had so I'm happy.

Took her out to California with the family. The far rear seats weren't too bad according to my 18 yr old. 10 hours back there would have killed me, but she said it wasn't bad. Yeah, I probably should have used the roof rack, but honestly too much of a nightmare to get up there. We have a hitch carrier which worked super well.

New front bumper, winch, and light bar installed. Took a surprising amount of time, not do cut everything, but to wire everything up. I'm super meticulous when it comes to wiring. I wanted all the DRL's to run off a single relay wired directly to the battery and that's exactly what I did. I don't love tapping fuses for power, so I tapped the fuse for the switch and then have the relay draw the power from the battery. Much safer. Getting the bumper back in was a BI*** and actually scratched my headlights (after which I dropped a few choice words), but nothing I can do about it now. Anyway, pics below:

Very impressive build! I love the bronze wheel and might do that to mine later on.
