01 4runner engine codes

Anyone know what these codes could be. I read on another forum that the C1201 could be a secondary code for the o2 sensor code. I’ve replaced the downstream o2 sensor, need to replace the upstream one as well.

 

P0141 can often be ignored. I reset mine and it comes back every year or so. Often after a long road trip of high speed driving. When it started coming back right away, I replaced my AF sensor rear of the catalytic converter. BTW, if you replaced yours with an O2 sensor, it's probably not going to work. You probably need an AF sensor as most of the 2001-2002 used AF sensors. Call you dealer with your vin and they can tell you exactly which part number is correct. Don't use aftermarket.

P0446 is an issue with the EVAP system and looks like it's going to be something either in the charcoal canister in the back or the control actuator up front. Not sure. Most people get the P0440 which is just a leak. P0446 is definitely different and is pointing to a bad valve. P1760 could be transmission related. May need a solenoid replaced?

No idea on the antilock stuff.

Have you reset all these codes and waited to see if they come back? Always try this.

 

Thank you, I did reset them and all of them came back except for the P0141 which is the o2 sensor code. I guess i will have to bring it to the shop

 

So I brought it to the shop and he said that all the codes are related to the transmission and a solenoid.told me that if he does it, he’s going to use OEM parts and it’s going to be expensive…

 

I'd like to know how the shop thinks that those codes are all related.

 

When he said that over the phone i raised an eyebrow to myself, like huh? The Evap code has nothing to do with the transmission, to my knowledge. But he basically turned me away and told me to go to a trans shop….. definitely not doing that around here unless i want half a$$ work or to be told i need a new trans.

In my thought, I do think it needs a shift solenoid, because it does shift into drive, and reverse pretty hard. But the only thing he said was trans and nothing about evap. This was a new shop i wanted to try out due to good reviews. I think i’m going to go to my other one i normally go to and see what he gets on his.

Unless my code reader was wrong‍♀️

 

Update:
The P1760 was a SLT solenoid that was an easy fix (once i found one)
and the P0446 is a vent valve that’s gone bad. Still not sure on the ABS ones, my VSC TRAC light is on

 

Vsc trac will always be on when a check engine light turns on.

Fix the check engine light and go from there.

 

Oh really??? I didn’t know that honestly. I kind of figured because when the check engine light was off so was the trac lights.

 

Many manufacturers turn off stability control systems when the engine is not running correctly. It is considered a safety precaution.

So for Toyotas the Check engine pops on and the trac/vsc lights will pop on as a result.

Many people think that there is more wrong than something with the engine... But usually not. Once the engine light is fixed, those go away too...unless there really is an issue with the trac control or abs..

 

Well that’s good to know. I’ve only had a Jeep TJ my whole life lol I just looked it up and yes you are correct, hopefully this vent valve will fix everything

 

To maybe answer my question, maybe the shop thinks fixing the CEL will clear those codes like I said above. My simple scanner has never shown those abs codes... So not sure.

 

So i brought it to the shop to fix the P1760 code, they fixed that with the SLT solenoid, I also asked them to look at the P0446 code too, I’m going to assume they thought it was the gas cap and cleared the code. The check engine light turned back on a day later after i got it back, I scanned it myself, and the only code that popped back up was the P0446. So idk what was up with the ABS ones, but they didn’t come back.

Also do you know if the toyotas have 2 different vent valves or just one?
