Who needs auto headlights?

Read this on a thread a while back about secret tips/tricks/discoveries and thought I'd bring it back up since I use it every day. I run my headlights and fogs (not DRLs) 24x7 for safety and convenience. Aside from the auto off function (which can take a little while), you can just press the lock button twice on your key and the lights will turn off. It's like having auto headlights! Works on older vehicles with real keys, not sure about FOBs.

 

When I run headlights during day time, it messes up the brightness of the screen because it turns on the night mode. I have to adjust it so that it can show.

 

Yeah, since I mostly drive during daylight I just keep the brightness on the highest setting. Most annoying part is the clock above the dash doesn't get bright enough. During winter I have to drop the brightness down when it's dark but I feel it's a small price to pay. Love the fact they shut off automatically to keep battery from dying and even more that you can turn them off by just locking twice. Nifty little trick

 

Yes clicking on lock key should immediately turn off the lights. Even if you lock with one key press headlights should turn off after a minute or so..

Need a favor folks.
Have any one with 2018 or similar year SR5 Premium have installed this light sensor for dash lights control? One of my viewers having problems, so want to check if this works for SR5 Premium. Thanks in advance.

 

Just roll the dimmer past the upper detent and the panel lights will not be effected by headlight operation.

 

2018 SR5 and I’ve tried a couple of times to shut the headlights off by double clicking the key fob. Worked once. I think it has to happen after an actual engine shutdown. Regardless, I prefer to manually turn lights on and off with the control knob.

 

But the clock and AC screen will stay dim unfortunately

 

I don't always want my headlights on though but I do leave them on when I make a stop and driving at night or during inclement weather.

 

Love to hear if anyone with SR5 installed the light sensor?

 

I have a 2018 SR5 Premium. I installed the light sensor and it didn't work, so I assumed I got a bad one. Ordered another one and installed it, and still no luck. The wiring and plug is there, but it just doesn't work for some reason. Was hoping someone could shed some light on this!

 

Ohh sh*t.. So we have 2 (you and the person comment on my video) that light sensor didn't work. I guess I will reply to return the sensor. Hope he bought from Amazon and have free returns.

 

My Wife have a 2022 4Runner SR5 Premium and it works for us. I ordered part number 89121 0E060 and installed it about 2 months ago and have been working since then.

 

2016 SR5 here. Had to add wires to complete the light sensor circuit. Most Pre-20 4Runners have half of the wiring present for the light sensor, the other half is not there. Having the plug present just means you have the connector and half the circuit if your light sensor doesn't work. You also need to check to make sure it is actually turned on via Techstream. Hope that helps.

 

What even is a daytime running light anyway? I've never had them. I've just run headlights all the time. I still do.

 

I didn't know you have to do few extra steps on SR5. Any additional info how to do it greatly appreciate those who are here and also I can include in my video as additional steps needed for SR5.
