    Hello,
Recently moved from SoCal to Hawaii (the island) a month ago and beyond the holy crap number of lifted ones oddly on 20 inch Limited wheels, they are also used as police vehicles which has utterly broken my brain.

From what I was told, some get a stipend to use on a vehicle which can be used off duty so they have a really small light bar smaller than the width of the moonroof.

Just got my Venture yesterday from being shipped here and will add more pics as it really is mind blowing how popular 4R’s are here.
Pic below is from the Saddle Road or Daniel Inouye Hwy heading back to the west side of the island from Hilo

    Welcome from CO.

So that's where all the 20in wheels go? My Limited wheels were bought by someone in Hawaii. His mom and (I think) his sister came to my house in CO to pick them.

It really is something as you see many SR5’s with them and sometimes even the Limited front end.

That's cool, but it makes sense. Durable, reliable and will go anywhere. Hawaii has some really rough back country. Law enforcement needs to access every square inch of the Islands. Can't think of anything better to get that done than a 4R. Would love to see a law enforcement version pic, just to get perspective - if you have time to get a pic and share.

BTW, love the Magnetic Gray Venture. Mine is black, but after I got it, I decided I liked the Mag Gray better. That said, no way I'm getting rid of my Venture tho even if I could swap even for a gray one.

    Thanks for sharing!!!

Thanks! Will do. I utterly love mine as well.
The Venture was a pretty neat model. While I initially got a KDSS ORP, I literally drove it back from Oakland to Humboldt only for someone to blast through a red light and destroy it with 500 miles on it. Was very lucky to have met the owner of the dealer back when I was in Newport Beach who put me in a KDSS Venture instead only without a moonroof.

Was mostly in utter shock as during the Ironman in Kona, there were at least a half dozen in a parking lot all with their blue lights on.
The ones I have seen are either ORP’s or SR5’s with most being MGM.

Black looks great as well, but I know it requires a gentle touch in terms of washing and so on. Not that the grey is that much better in that regard. Classic Silver is another color I have become more and more a fan of.

    Hawaii is Toyota country.

Every parking lot looks like a Toyota dealer.

What better vehicle to ship to an island then a 4r? I mean with any part oem or aftermarket having to be shipped to Hawaii(where shipping anything cost $$$$). Id want the most reliable vehicle out there.

So it makes sense, seeing toyotas everywhere

Shipping cost really isn't that bad.

Compared to normal cost of living its nothing.

I noticed the same thing when we wen to Maui a few years ago. But I would say, even though there were a lot of 4Runners, I saw more lifted Tacomas than anything. Pretty cool to see the popularity of Toyotas out there!

So the residents drive 4Rs and the tourists drive V6 mustang convertibles I guess :)

Cool thread. I’m curious if delivery fees are cheaper in Hawaii than the mainland since your closer to Japan?

I would doubt it. I think they are flat fees. I remember checking into this years ago on a Mustang and F150. My Dad worked for Ford and each plant and dealer were less than 50 miles away. The shipping cost was the same across the country and they could not change it and would not allow you to go to plant to get vehicle.

With the weirdness of shipping logistics, I wouldnt be surprised if they are shipped to LA first, and then out to Hawaii lol.

It’s pretty bad-ass seeing that line of cop car 4runners and tacomas in that picture.

Toyota should make a LEO version of them with a cop motor, cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks, and no catalytic converters so it runs good on regular gas….;)

How cool would it be to buy a used up cop car 4runner at a govt auction lol.

You also need a 12+ in lift and 35s min to qualify.

I couldn’t imagine living in Hawaii. The traffic and cost of living is crazy.

I saw the same thing in Maui last May. And not just normally lifted Taco's but 6" lifts. They seemed to be everywhere we went.
