Whooshing sound

    Hi Im new to this forum. I discovered it when i was looking for information on my 2018 4runner. Last night I turned it off after driving a short way and someone standing in front of it said it made a whooshing sound . He said like a vacumm. Should i worry.

    Yes it’s normal. It’s a somewhat crude way of dealing with the extra unburnt fuel in the exhaust on startup, and a little bit that happens on shutdown. The extra shot of fresh air into an oxygen depleted exhaust dtream ensures any unburnt fuel left over can burn. I say “crude”, because almost every other car deals with this problem in less obvious/abnoxious sounding ways.

    If anybody asks, I tell them it’s the exhaust flux-turbine supercharger spooling down. Sounds cooler than “vacuum”:D
