I got offered to take over payments for a 2018 4Runner. The amount owed is 26-27k it has a lot of miles 150,000. I know these cars last but I just want to make sure I’m getting a good deal or if that’s too high or a price for a 4Runner. Can someone help?

It’s a friend and they would just let me finish paying it. I really like the vehicle but I don’t know if it’s worth that much or if I should just get a different car

Prices vary from area to area, that’s why I said to check.
For almost 30k I’d get something with less than 150k miles.
    What trim ?

Also, how was it kept, and what are your plans? If it was well-maintained with good records, and you plan to drive it for another 200k or more, the price may be ok. Also, where does it live? In the salt belt? If so, the frame will need at least a decent looking-at.

To answer your original question, yes, miles affect price on 4Runners. But probably less than just about any other vehicle. I read a Consumer Reports article on the 2017 4Runner, which declared that it was the most reliable vehicle you could buy. It's the same truck today.

well I want to keep it I currently have a 2013 Nissan Pathfinder I’m looking to replace it with a reliable vehicle and pay it off no more trade ins or getting more cars out I just want something good that will last me a good while and won’t give me mechanical problems.

If you don’t need it and can wait for this crazy market to pass, I’d 100% wait. For perspective, I bought my 2018 with 19k miles on it for 28k back in 2020.

Who cares? This never shows everything anyway.
What kind of miles is that? Highway miles? If so it wouldn't be nearly as worn out as the odometer would lead you to believe. Considering it's a 2018 and it's only 2022 now, highway miles are likely.

Still kind of a high price, but that's the zeitgeist these days.

I won’t comment on if you should do it or not because only you know your finances and desires.

Did he put almost nothing down along with a high interest rate?

This is what I’m trying to figure out, 26k left on the loan, seems like someone is trying to get out of a mistake.

My 2019 ORP was purchased in June of this year with 19K on the odometer. I owe $0 on it. I know the 4R's are almost bullet proof but that's a lot of miles already. If you're looking to keep it looooong term, then I would keep looking.

I purchased my 2018 for $32K with less than 12K miles on it. In my area, it was a SUPER SWEET deal! Someone else stated it depends on your area if it is a deal or not, but at 150K miles, I'm thinking it is overpriced. Tell your friends they need to give you the "homie discount" or pass. I had a friend who had a 2016 sr5 with 70K miles on it sell it for $20K to a different friend. Now THAT was a steal...or I mean, deal.

Edit: I bought mine in 2019 and paid it off months ago. I am wondering if your friends have run into some financial troubles to not have the loan be paid off or close to...? None of my business and maybe not yours, but something to consider.

Also, it depends on the overall condition of the vehicle. Miles may not matter all that much if it has been well maintained. If it is in great shape, that price may not be unreasonable after all.

jesus christ thats a lof miles racked up and way to high price. I bought my 2011 with 12,000 miles on in 2012 for $21k. It now has 158k and still drives like new. IMO, Id pass on this 2018.

I surrendered my bank account and wallet on a 2018 Limited with 31,000 in June of 2022. I looked at 2 new Off Road premium models from 2 separate dealers. One told me add $5000 to msrp to every vehicle on the lot and the other told me to add $7000. It made my over priced Limited more attractive. Car prices are out of this world.

Dealerships are still gouging? Who the heck is paying these markups? Did you consider traveling to a non-gouging dealership?

I was in a bad spot with my current vehicle and needed a vehicle that week. I’m in NY and nobody was dealing. They wouldn’t negotiate on the used 2018 either. Bad spot at a bad time I guess. Best deal I could have made at that time was $3000 over list on a new off road premium which was still $10,000 more than the used 2018 Limited. I like the Limited but the first thing I did was get a set of ORP 17” wheels and a set of Wildpeaks.

God only knows when I’m going to get the 2023 Off Road I’ve ordered so I looked into dealerships out of town. A Lethbridge dealership told me they wouldn’t sell an in stock 4Runner to someone from out of town. Unbelievable.

Was that their management that said that? Or a salesperson? Because, it seems really dumb.

Definitely a ploy. I can't imagine any dealerships not willing to take ANYONE's $$$.
