I just got a card in the mail that states there is a class action lawsuit against Denso International America whose fuel pumps were equipped in certain Lexus and Toyota vehicles. Apparently the 2018-2019 4runners are listed as impacted.

I have had no issues so far with stalling, chugging, or loss of acceleration, but curious if anyone else received this in the mail, or has experienced any of these issues with a 2018-2019 rig.

Here is the site it provides for more info and VIN lookup in case anyone else would like to see if they are impacted and haven't received this notice: https://www.toyotafuelpumpssettlement.com/

Me too, but Toyota dealership replaced my fuel pump over a year ago and I haven’t looked back. Just another example of too many attorneys in the world?

I received the card also. Same as @Slopemaster I had my fuel pump replaced for the recall. I will be keeping the card with my owner manual in case I have an issue with the new one.

Is this regarding the OEM fuel pump? Or is it regarding the replacement fuel pumps? I had mine replaced last summer. There was an issue where they hadn't replaced an O-ring and I wound up with a vacuum leak or something. I stalled out on the freeway and had to get it towed to a dealership.

There may be a few Toyota owners out there that had a bad experience with the recall and/or a fuel pump failure. For them, a class action may be warranted. But for me personally, I didn’t experience a failure and my dealership did a good job installing the new fuel pump. I’ve got no complaints.

    This doesn't clarify anything.

Or, are people suing Toyota for faulty fuel pumps that they already replaced/ recalled?

    :notsure:

Interesting. I hope the replacement is ok. Aside from the problem right after the recall was performed, everything seems good so far.

Don't blame me, I voted for Trump.
I think Toyota does a good job at recalls. I had a 2012 Tacoma with 140,000 miles and it was over five years old when I received a notice about the catalytic convertor may be bad. I called the dealer and said your not going to fix as mileage and age....nope bring it in. They replaced the catalytic convertors free of charge.

I also got the class action notice today. But my 4Runner is in the window of build time where the fuel pumps are OK and there was no recall for me. I have had no problems with it.

I think Toyota handled this recall responsibly. What more could they have done?

It seems the class action suit only provides a 15 year warranty for the replacement pumps. And a ton of money for the lawyers.

I had a 1979 Toyota HiLux. It had a 20R four cylinder engine. The exhaust manifold had a habit of cracking. I was not the original owner. Every time I took the truck in for service, which was not very often because I was young enough to do my own, if the manifold was cracked, they replaced it no questions asked. My grandfather was an engineer for General Motors. GM didn't care for the customer like that, especially back then. I felt taken care of by Toyota, whereas GM could care less. I wonder where I spent my money? I have not had a GM product since my 1981 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme (fantastic car). I have had many Japanese cars since. The worst was two Fords, (never again) and one chevy (never again). Not that Toyota is so great now, (NOT) but I have my preferences...

    From the website:
On February 4, 2020, Plaintiff Sharon Cheng filed a class action complaint in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York, Sharon Cheng, et al. v. Toyota Motor Corporation, et al., Case No. 1:20-cv-00629-WFK-JRC (E.D.N.Y.), asserting claims related to Toyota’s January 13, 2020 recall report (the “Recall Report”) to NHTSA voluntarily recalling nearly 700,000 Toyota and Lexus vehicles manufactured between August 1, 2018 through January 31, 2019 with low-pressure Denso fuel pumps (together with the expansions referenced below, the “Recall”).

So if your 4Runner was not manufactured during this time window, there is no issue, correct?

    +1,

This is exactly why I left Ford back in the 90’s and have been driving Toyota’s ever since.

Basically it's to get your money back if you paid to have it changed but there's more in it for the lawyers.

Didn't Toyota replace them for free? Or, does this pertain to people who replaced their pumps before the recall was issued?

Blacked out badges, window deflectors, smoked 3rd brake light. I have a Borla muffler on order as well as some color matched engine cover stickers. I'll be painting the stock wheels soon as well. Falken tires in the fall as well.
I got a card too. Stick it in the glove box. I had the pump replaces about a year ago with no issues. Lawyers being lawyers I guess.

I recall a handful of people paying for it out of pocket. Not all years are covered by the recall as far as I know.

You should have a recall notice if your Runner was included. You can check on Toyota's Owner site. I did mine so they would stop bothering me with letters but never had any issues.

Yeah you're good to go. Seems like it was a certain batch of pumps that were effected and I guess I was one of the lucky ones.
