I just ordered a new TRD Off-Road to replace my 2012 and was horrified to learn that there's no longer a CD player. I listen to jazz exclusively and have thousands of CDs, many of which are out of print. Any ideas?

RIP your CD's using your computer to MP3 files and then transfer the MP3 files to a USB drive and use that in the 4runner. You can probably fit most of your CD's onto one USB drive.

Thanks Brodie. Actually I knew about that method but it's just too time-consuming for me.

Who cares? This never shows everything anyway.
    Check out my guide here:

    https://www.4runners.com/threads/do...res-how-mostly-applies-to-all-cars-too.20189/

You could replace the CD player with an MP3 player or a phone that has a headphone jack. I actually used an MP3 player for a while until it burned out from being overheated :D

One thing you may wish to do is use this CD player in place of the one that I used in the guide. The one in the guide started having issues reading some discs. Here's the one that I got recently: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B089654QDH?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details It seems to be a bit higher quality.

CD sound quality is far superior to anything coming out of the current oem set up, IMHO

Three is way, but not guaranteed to work. Use at your own risk.
As for a USB stick with mp3s…

You can't use that and Android Auto/Apple Carplay at the same time. Granted, you can put MP3s on your phone and run them through it. I use the app Retro Player on my Android phone. But if you want to have the full album on a disc experience, you've got to do the FM transmitter thing.

Yeah, that's a pain in the ass, and still illegal the way the laws are written. I'd recommend torrenting, using a site like RARBG or Pirate Bay, and software like UTorrent. You can find discographies of most artists, and easily replace your entire collection with .mp3's, then run them off of flash drives. Way more content, and they never skip no matter how schwifty you get on the trails!

I believe as long as you own the cd you can legally copy it for your own use. As bad as my hearing is from sitting in the back seat of a B-57 for over a thousand hours and working on the flight line with 160 f-100’s for two years and on top of that riding motorcycles for 50 years the MP3’s sound fine to me. This was all before osha required hearing protection.

I am fairly sure you can buy a CD player with a USB interface and plug it into the USB port, and the radio will recognize it as a USB audio device

Do new 4Runners have AUX jacks in addition USB ports? I would imagine that hooking up a Walkman or similar portable CD player via the headphone jack would allow you to play CDs.

Sadly no. This would have greatly simplified things.

I was pondering buying an old cassette Walkman and plugging it in through my AUX jack to play some of my old tapes... :headbang:
