'18 TRDORP superwhite, lifted, 285s yada yada yada....

So, my front passenger door lock isn't working when I click the lock/unlock buttons (both sides) inside the vehicle or when I click the lock/unlock button on the key fob. Its just remains in whatever position it was in.

Dealership in Spanish Fort, AL said its the door lock accentuator and right at $450 to replace.
Are you freaking kidding me?!?!?!?!?!?! :frustrated::frustrated::frustrated:

And now, the driver front lock is only firing about 90% of the time,, so I'm staring almost a cool grand in the face unless y'all can help me:(. Anybody diy this themselves???

    Many thanks in advance!

Captain, excellent DYI video. Thank you for posting.

I wonder how common door lock actuator failures are on our 4Runners?

I was recently having the same problem with my driver's door. But, since it was the driver's door, the fob did nothing, and the button on the door caused the immediate lock/unlock. Now, it's fine again.

Were you driving in dusty conditions? I was starting to think dust might have gotten in mine, and caused the problem.

My front passenger door actuator has died twice. I've replaced it twice on my own, $30 each on Amazon. It's not a hard swap.

If dust is the culprit, then I’m probably on borrowed time. My off roading involves lots of dust.

Mine does, too. I've only had it act up once, though. It resolved itself before I got around to fixing it.

My '14 acted up last year and I lubed the snot out of it and it decided to work again. Fast forward to about 10 days ago it quit working again, tried the lube again and nothing. I bought an Amazon replacement last year sooooooo looks like it may be time to swap it out.

Front and passenger actuators had to be replaced on my '14 soon after purchasing. DIY. Seems like a common problem.

I have a 2014. In the past two years all of the door actuators died. I purchased all four motors on Amazon for less than $30 total. I swapped them out one by one as they failed. They all work good as new. Go slow and double check your work. The last lock I did, I rushed it and accidentally enabled the child lock, but I also didn’t reassemble the latch mechanism so when I went to unlock the door nothing happened. Had to remove the panel while it was still attached to the door while it was closed. That was fun and made a 25 minute job last over an hour.
