I understand. I think other hitch mounted options are quite robust. Now I'm about over 700 bucks with no response in months. He can't deny he did not see the message. Messages are delivered but not read.

Figured I would give an update. I did finally get my swing out from him. Overall pleased with the product and it seems solid. Took 48 weeks total to get it and was quoted 12 when I placed it. I guess if you are willing to wait it worth the money for it.

That's a little more comforting to hear. I don't mind waiting as long as I know I will eventually get it. I placed my order in early February (right before this thread and others blew up with people waiting a year and getting no response). I knew he previously had delays due to covid but he also told me 12-weeks when i ordered so i thought he was caught up. I'm no stranger to lies about lead times, I have a Gobi. The big differences though are I felt that they are a more established company (I was confident it would eventually come), I knew they would be late because of the forum chatter, and I wasn't charged until it shipped. If he responds before the 6 month cutoff of my buyer protection I will see if he can refund and re-invoice me. I don't mind waiting longer but I'd like the option to get my money back if he doesn't deliver again over the next 6 months.

Congrats to those who've received the Detours Of Maine tire carriers, not taking anything away from that experience but there are many of us in the off road community who are not as lucky. Mark with Detours Of Maine received the $777.00 thru PayPal in Oct. 2021 for a RidgeRunner tire carrier. He failed to supply the carrier in the 12 weeks as agreed. In Mar. 2022 he finally responds and assures me he'll get one out in the next several weeks, but has ghosted me ever since. No communication, no tire carrier, no refund and 100% my fault for not disputing the transaction prior to 180 days...I know, get a tissue. Off-Road family be very cautious where you choose to spend your money to avoid being scammed by the likes of Detours Of Maine.

Just find his Facebook page is gone, I am in the same boat, placed order on 9/2/2021, never receive my order, he replied in Aril and and promise my order will be ready in two weeks. After that he never responded to me, looks like I lost my $777 hard earned money, please let me know what I can do. Thanks

Did you put the purchase on a card?
If so, contact the card co and inform them you never received your order!

I can’t seem to find where to order on his website anymore (not that I would order with all the crap that’s happened). Was looking at ordering a few years ago but glad I didn’t support this guy.

Sounds like Detours of Maine may be going out the way of Pelfreybilt

I filed the dispute on Paypal and was informed "The case was closed as this transaction is ineligible for PayPal Purchase Protection." At least my dispute will be noted on this seller's record. Thank you Saker.

I know Maine is not local to most people, but has anyone driven out to see if he is alive or maybe operating under another name?

I am in southern Maine and have thought about this a few times. just not sure I want to put myself in the middle of the shit storm.

I did check out the website the other day and can not find a location.

A Detour? As in Detours of Maine? All pun intended.
I'm guessing something happened to him. It happens.

You all seem to be posting most regularly. Only cause I was looking and found DOM and found his lead time unacceptable, also found these guys, not to be confused with RIGD:
    https://www.rigid-armor.com/shop/spare-tire-hitch-carrier-toyota-4runner

Pictures seem pretty good, pretty good Instagram presence, and their phone number tells me theyre in SoCal like many of the good names we all trust. Maybe theyre a decent fallback without running up to RIGD or Wilco prices.

Personally, not a fan of the way it folds down (in the way).

    YMMV

Seems like if somewhere in the process of figuring out you wouldn't be able to process the orders received and were considering closing the doors, a person with any integrity would have refunded those who had paid with no possibility of getting their carrier.

I am sorry to say being a veteran, this person has no integrity. I am hoping someone can take the lead to file the class action lawsuit.
