Just sold 2014 Tacoma TRD OFF ROAD 4x4 (122k miles). Hope to get new 4Runner on next allocation this Friday. Will buy off allocation so i can control added extras.
I had a LIMITED on order and never set up. I am now happy about this as i really don’t want the big radio system with navigation (do not want nav at all). The X system isn’t important to me as at 74 hope to put 100k on it and normally the X system will not.
I put lots of highway miles between Texas & Florida so ride is important.
Never impressed with factory nav and have good gps.
Must have 4x4, don’t use it but always valued it.
    Looking between:
    SR5 - would add leather&heater to it.
    SR5 Premium
TRD OFF-ROAD would add leather&heater to it.
XXXXXXXXxxxxxTRD SPORT taken the Sport out of the running.
    Any thoughts please.
46 years with Toyota and sold the first 4Runners introduced. But no way would buy ANNIVERSARY model not knowing if strips are removable. Without stripes cool unit.

    Edit:
    9/22 Allocation hit and i now have a White (w/Sand) SR5 Premium 4x4 with a Sunroof & Safe due to arrive 9/19.
All weather mats, rear mat and roof cross bars added at dealership.
Thank all of you for the advice.
Sold my 2014 TRD OFF-ROAD 4x4 Tacoma that gave 122k very carefree miles.

Question: is it best to add to a thread like this the outcome by edit in the top or add it to the bottom of the thread?

If its a primarily on road vehicle, the Limited is the edition you want. Meant to be a city dweller and long distance vehicle, it has more comfort features. I hate the SoftTex seats, I'd def opt for leather.

All trim levels ride comfortable without the added suspension options. Off-Road has all of the 4x4 upgrades you will probably never use. Save the money and find a Premium or SR5 with leather. Nav comes in several models and both premium and non JBL units, its as useless as tits on a wall. Very dated tech.

just wait a year....worst time to buy a new tacoma or 4runner is right now. demand is still high enough to warrant dealer market adjustments over msrp and even if you grab one at msrp with the 6th gen expected next year its gonna have a big resale value decline and be significantly outdated within 1 year

Retired from dealership so buying very right.
I believe the demand for body on frame will live on.
In the past 46 years (previous to the last 9 years of retirement) my experience not that loss on Toyota as others and with the major change I’m thinking 5th Gen will stay.
The change over for Tacoma’s certainly didn’t hurt selling my 2014.

Thanks. I may take your advice and have leather with heated &cooled seats installed. Change out tires at 20k to Michelin soft tire and keep tackling I-10.

    Hi @Overland WT,
That is very interesting you hate SoftTex. I was not able to feel the difference to be honest. I'm little worried that I would get dirt on my ventilated leather seats. If I'm not mistaken ventilated seats suck in air not blw when I tested long ago. I should check it again, I forgot exactly. So prefer to have SoftTex vs the Leather seats with ventilation feature on Limited. I clean my softex without any worry and use the same leather conditioner.

I guess leather available on SR5 is dealer installed option right? The quality would change from 3rd party installer to installer right?

Though the tech is dated I rely on the built in navigation over my phone GPS. Only thing I trusted more than the built in nav was the Garmin nav with traffic I installed.

As a music lover I do like the JBL as a factory option unless you have a good shop to mix and match a nice amp + speaker setup.

I know everyone hates 3rd row seats but I LOVE the 3rd row on my SR5 and Limited. It was very useful for taking my kiddo with family friend kiddos for outings like movies.

For SR5 I love Non-premium with no moon roof for 1) I have more head room 2) I'm less worried of getting caught in a hail storm and shattering the moonroof here in CO. 3) No leaks not having moonroof like my TRD Pro moonroof did. I did not notice until I had the cover for moonroof open and water splashed. Could have mold if I did not notice and fixed by dealer.

For anyone buying a Limited I would highly suggest to check with dealer if you can get with 17in wheels and tires. IMO XREAS on Limited is the most comfortable suspension system across the 4Runner lineup. I do love the fulltime 4wd system on Limited too.

the TRD Sport is almost a limited, I think it has the Xreas system as well. Road vehicle, limited is worth it. Don’t worry about the nav system, they come with CarPlay now, so plug you phone in and use that as your nav system.

Let’s see the Tacoma. What color was it? I kept my 2013 Tacoma Sport & bought a used 2015 4Runner Pro. You just sold your locking diff Tacoma. If you need a locking diff you’ll lose heated seats. Just be patient! Look for a off road p ideally. It’s worth it!!

It sounds like you'd be best served by the SR5 Premium. You can get a lot of the comforts of the higher trims without the extra off-road stuff. As long as youre not taking it rock crawling, mudding, or to the dunes, you should be just fine. My base SR5 (4WD) is plenty capable and I think it has a very comfortable ride. Hauls my boat pretty well too.

^ I agree, sr5p. Unless you want a trd offroad.

I don't like the styling of the sport.

What's important to you? Limited has real leather vs synthetic soft
Trd off road premium has locking diff and heated seats

I agree the sport needs some aesthetic help.
