Hey guys.. Green thumb mechanic installing the bilstein 5100s front and back.

    Backs, piece of cake.

Front was a little tough. Selected the 1.75in front lift, completed it, took it for a spin around my block and the ride was awful. Felt stiffer then all get out and if I hit a little bump, it would bounce aggressively maybe an inch up and down. Looking at the lift, the springs looked way to compressed and the 1.75in looked way to high so we took it all apart and set it to the factory height and put it all back together. Took it for a ride and much better, helped the front nose dive tremendously and it was nice and smooth. But… after selecting the factory height, it still gave the front end a pretty noticeable lift..

Is this normal?! I’ve read just about every post there is on this lift and I’m kind of coming up blank.

    Thanks 4Runner fam.

Are your lower spring perches upside down? Like the one that's X'd out?

I think the lowest setting on the 5100’s is .75 or .85 lift ?
I’m going to try the Eibach shocks on mine soon. The Bilsteins are great shocks but they will beat you up over potholes or washboard at low speeds. They are awesome over about 40 mph though. I’m sure they’re great running in the desert & high speed on backroads.
Big heavy tires will stiffen the ride even worse. Unless you need the added puncture protection, I would stay with a well designed SL tire & maintain factory ride or maybe compromise with a C load.

Aftermarket shocks are almost a necessity to deal with nosedive on our 4Runners but ask around & research valving…digressive vs regressive etc…good luck finding your desired outcome & enjoy your ride !

My dealership did precisely that with a set of 5100’s on a Tundra. Ride was horrible. After re-installing properly they did great over about 60k I had them.

    It's a fairly common error.

Thank you 4Runner dudes. You are indeed correct. God damnit. I’m gonna go hide in a corner for a couple of hours then get back to it.

Happens to a bunch of people.

After it's all fixed, you'll be stoked on the ride.
