Hi y’all! I’m new here, from Las Vegas :) I have a 2019 4Runner sr5premium that’s currently stock. I want to put Fuel Vector D579 and Toyo Open Country A/T III on it. I’d like a wider stance, but don’t know what size/offset I can get away with. I want to make sure I don’t have any rubbing and I don’t want to do any cutting or mods. I think I will eventually level it out, but I’m not sure about a lift. I’m a chick, so going into the store can be a little intimidating cuz I genuinely have no clue what I’m talking about-so any help would be greatly appreciated.

I’ve been doing some reading but not finding much info on stock 4Runners, seems like most have lifts etc.

I can tell you that I had some very minor rubbing on stock size KO2's with -6mm offset wheels. It could have easily been remedied with some plastic trimming, or an adjustment of the fender liner. I've since lifted and changed UCA's, so I can't be much help otherwise.

Check out the links @Mtbpsych posted for some more helpful information.

    And, welcome to the forum!

Safe to say that a "zero" offset is safe with probably any 265/70/17 tire (OEM size) but since every 265/70/17 is a different shape, size, width, tread depth, its impossible say X will work with Y on a stock setup. "Leveling" will make that issue disappear with a + or neutral offset. FWIW, I run a 265/70/17 KO2 on VTX -25 17x9 on OEM height suspension on a TRD ORP, same as yours. Rubs in reverse at about 2/3-3/4 lock. Adding a "leveling kit" would essentially take your rig and make it the same height/stance as a TRD Pro. Lift kit for mien is in the back of my truck as we speak. Eibach Pro Truck Stage 1 kit with a 2.5" front and 1" in the back will eliminate everything.

I think I’m starting to understand how it works. I was thinking that a positive offset wouldn’t stick out as far as my stock wheels, but now I’m realizing that it really depends on what my stock wheels offset is; correct?
Does anyone know how I can find this information out?

2022 stock SR5 here. I run RRW wheels with 0 offset and 265/70-17 Toyo AT3 tires and have a lot of clearance in all directions. No suspension mods, just wheels and tires and no issues whatsoever.

The Vector wheel comes in 3 sizes for the 17”. I think the 17x8.5 +6 will be your best shot of not rubbing. I have a 17x7 +4 no lift and it’s really close but every truck is different. Also if you’re staying with the 265 size tire, 8.5 is the max width I’d go on a wheel. I like a 7.5 or 8 better.

Ok, so what I can gather is my stock wheels are:
    17×7.5 +15mm
And the wheels I’m looking at are either:
    17x8.5 +7mm with LT275/70R17 tires
    Or:
    18x9 +1mm with LT275/70R18 tires

Is it just kinda a cross your fingers and hope they don’t rub situation, or is there a way to figure it out before I purchase them?

Thank you, that’s super helpful. I’m considering getting a slightly larger tire (275) I’m also considering possibly getting a larger wheel (18”) but really I don’t know what the hell I’m doing, if I’m being completely honest.

I run a 275/65R18 On a Fuel Blitz wheel. My truck is leveled - which means lifted slightly in front. I believe it is about 1.85 inches higher in front and not much higher in back. My truck rubs a little at close to full lock when backing up. The tires I have are Nitto Ridge Grapplers.

I think those 275s will definitely rub with the vector wheels. You might be ok with 275s on the factory wheels. I have the grey trd wheels on my Limited. Every other 4Runner in NC seems to have them. I see them as a lighter factory alternative wheel.

It’s not just offset you care about, but tire size too. Imagine that in order to achieve your wider stance you go to TRD Pro wheels. If your SR5 has the stock wheels they probably have an offset of +15mm. The TRD Pro wheels have an offset of +4mm. A decrease in positive offset moves the rim outboard, so in the case of switching from stock SR5 rims to TRD Pro rims the outside edge of rim moves outboard by 11mm. (Both rims are 7” wide, I believe.)

In your original post you did not mention anything about tire size, but let’s suppose that with your imaginary switch to the Pro wheels you also get wider tires, say 285’s. Those are 20mm wider than the stock 265 mm tires. Think of it as 10mm wider on the inboard side and 10mm wider on the outboard side.

This means that swapping the rims will move the outside edge of the rim outboard by 11mm, and the tire swap will move it out a further 10mm, for a total move outboard of 21mm or about 0.8in. Which might be significant in terms of rubbing.

I made a nice infographic for another forum. The details are for a Volkswagen Thing, but the explanation of the terminology is universal. I refer to it when I’m trying to visualize in my mind.

And of course none of this takes into account changes to the tire diameter and lifting the body.

Think I’m safest going with the +7 offset with 265s?

So I currently have +15s and 265s, the fuels I’m considering are +7 think I can get 275s or would I need to stick with 265s if I don’t want any rubbing and I don’t want to do any mods? I am honestly starting to consider the TRD wheels as well, which as you mentioned are +4…

And to add fuel to the flame ...wheel offset and backspace change according to the width of the wheel.

If you’re not going to level the front then 265s and a positive offset 7-8” wheel is going to be your safest option. I think any bigger tire or wider wheel is going to require a level kit, trimming, or adding caster to your alignment( pushing the wheels towards the front bumper).

    +7 and 275's is a safer bet.

Pro wheels at +4 and 275's have rubbed for some people.

Where does one go to have it leveled? And what does something like that typically cost?

According to the chart, that would put the fuels I want at a +6

Do you happen to know what the offset is on your Fuel Blitz?

I also have an SR5Prem. You also need to take into consideration the width of the aftermarket wheels you are looking at. I went with a 17" wheel, 8.5in wide, 0 offset wrapped in stock size KO2's. I only have a 1" front level. I can probably clear 275's with no trimming. If I went with a wider wheel and maybe more of a negative offset, I would probably rub something. This is a great site to figure out your fitment. Best to actually turn your steering wheel all the way left and right and see potential rubbing spots and see how much space you have with each turn. Then do some math using this site.
