    Yes, driving habits are the biggest factor here. Aside from winter/summer fuel and weather effects, my roof rack has probably been the single worst thing for my fuel economy. Tires might be third on the list.

    For anyone not sure what is this;
    I normally get 299 or 300miles of range on this "After refuel" menu when I pump full tank of gas.

    I took a trip and specifically tried to keep the mileage up by staying under 70mph except for passing and merging. My grand total was 15.2 MPG, but that included a lot of tire spinning at low speed in the sand dunes and the folding chairs on the rack probably did not help either. I would like to go back to Oceano Dunes with multiple vehicles. I was too scared of getting stuck solo to try any of the scary stuff and there was plenty of that in the back section of the park.

    My wife just got back from Ca to NM and got around 20mpg. Some times a little more, some times a little less. All stock 2022 4Runner. Next trip will be from NM to Pa and about 5 days on the road. Will be pulling a 5x8 enclosed trailer.

    Keep it around 65 MPH or less if you don't want to hate life. :D

    Also, keep it in S4. You'll be downshifting constantly otherwise.

    Just curious if the Hypermilers are driving in 100+ Fahrenheit weather without the AC on when they are getting 21MPG to 25.2 MPG ? When it cools down in my area and I start driving in 65 Fahrenheit weather without having the AC on will it help my MPG drastically?

    I really don't notice a difference either way. I run my AC pretty much full time from May - Oct and still consistently get slightly over 20mpg every tank.

    I haven't noticed a difference with AC on or off. But, warmer weather has generally been better. But, I think above a certain temperature it might start to get worse.

    LOL I confess I’m one of those guys who has trouble believing 25 mpg in anything but unusual circumstances — and relatively short trips. Who’s getting this on round trips of a few hundred miles? Like, where you’re not just going downhill with a tailwind, you also have to head back on the same route you came down? Anyone? I’ve never approached that on my stock Limited (inc on stock Dueler HTs) except one trip of about 20-30 miles at around 50 mph when I was babying it to see how high I could go. Even then I recall I ended up around 23/24.

    But I’ve gotten a legit 20 on several trips of hundreds of miles.

    I do suspect, despite the identical EPA rating, that the constant 4WD of the Limited takes its toll. I read a Car and Driver review where they got 22 mph at a steady 75 mph for 200 miles on a TRD Off Road. Then again, when they tested another one I think they got only 19. Which is prob what I’d get at that speed.

    To my point in my post above, yes you deserve a trophy. But how many miles was that trip where you got 25.2 mpg? The pic does not show miles driven but rather a recent fill up. If that was a 20 or 50 mile trip I’m rescinding the trophy :D

    Hauled 3 adults and one French Brittany and all our gear, while towing two Dual Sports 150 miles into central PA mountains for a weekend of single track in the Bald Eagle State Forest. Over 90% of the miles were highway speeds (60-65mph) the other 10% were running up and down mountain gravel at about 10mph. I got just a hair over 18mpg for the 320 miles round trip. It was hot and dusty, so the A/C was on the whole time:

    With my "slightly modified" LE, well... I don't know for sure yet, but I expect it to be on the low side :(.

    I'll know more tomorrow when I track some actual highway miles. I've been breaking in the 4.88s for the last 500 miles so I want to start fresh when I make the 900 mile drive home. Giddy up...

    YOU USED THE GAS TANK LOW 1/4 lower ....the fuel pump is breaking down ... then it will kill the armature ..heat it up ..
    I put the fuel tank above 1/3 of the tank ..

    I have consistently driven every vehicle I have ever owned until the light comes on (and usually beyond that). It will not hurt your fuel pump. Running it out might.

    For the 750 mile trip from Lucerne Valley to Medford my mileage ranged from 12.8 to 13.7. I tried to keep the speed at about 65, so I could probably do a bit better if I slowed down a little.

    This is not a stock vehicle, but if you’re thinking about running Long Travel, full body armor, front and rear steel bumpers and 35 inch tires, then this might reflect the mileage you’ll get. Oh it’s AWD too.

    Well, it’s off the the mall! I going to take on the “StarBuck” obstacle! Don’t worry, I have a winch :turtleride:

    THE fuel pump is in the gasoline BELOW THE 1/4 TANK,, motor heats up .. then when the lamp was low fuel ,the motor has high speed with some air in it on the impeller.. armature breaks-down ....
    its a dc motor .....creates then rpm is higher speed...

    ac motors have the RPM and the armature is rotating with no load/or a load ...correct ..spec...

    Running below 1/4 tank isn't going to hurt it.

    I have consistently run every vehicle I've ever owned until the light comes on. No problems.

    If running it until the light comes on was ever going to hurt it, they would make the light come on sooner.

    Was on Dunlops, just switched to k02 c rated, 21-22 mpg doesn’t appear to be changing (god awful balancing aside). Mostly highway, about 5k for elevation, and yes 100F but AC on. 38 psi.

    I had my vehicles and I did not change the electrical fuel pumps ...my 22 year old truck is working great fuel pressure is good..keep it above the 1/3 gas tank ..

    Maybe older in tank fuel pumps had issues with being operated with a low fuel level. But, it's not something to be concerned about with modern vehicles.

    My '03 had 257K miles when I traded it in. I ran it until the light came on pretty much every time. No issues.

    The pump pulls fuel from the bottom of the tank. Unless you actually run it out, it's fine.

    I have to admit J Cat has a point, I burned out the fuel pump on my 2000 Silverado by running it low, with only about 60k miles. But like bassguy says, that was a 22 y/o vehicle, so maybe it's different now? I doubt it, and won't risk it. Gotta fill up at some point, might as well get the pain out if the way.

    Oh, and to the point of the thread, I got 21 MPG on the highway driving back from the dealer. 18.1 average on and off highway at 70 miles on the clock.

    Those fuel pumps were junk. My Dad has an older Silverado, and it's on its second or 3rd fuel pump.

    Do whatever you're comfortable with, though.

    I always run until the light is on, and have never had an issue because of it.

    I try and fill up shortly after 1/2 a tank, so it isn’t as painful psychologically to the wallet. I drive this truck like an old geezer as still breaking it in (still less than 1,000 miles on it). I’m averaging 13.5 L / 100kms, or about 17.4 mpgs. Only physical change are my tires to Toyo AT3s (lighter version), and at 36psi. I’ve been mainly driving with windows open, except one longer rural road trip with a/c.

    Ran 200 miles into the Poconos for a fishing trip with some buddies. This time, just me and an ice chest of Wawa hoagies and Yuengling Lagers - no other people, no trailer loaded with motorcycles. Lots of highway miles, but unfortunately, three different one-lane constructions delays, and an ugly accident that stalled traffic for ambulances. Still 22.1 mpg, less than half a tank according to the gauge.

    Today I topped off the tank before heading out with my 77"x12' steel flatbed trailer with beaver tail rear ramp (~1400 pounds dead head weight) to pick up a 620 pound ATV ~150 miles away. Round trip was 303 miles and I topped it back up with 17.8 gallons (17 MPG) at the same gas station and same pump. Carputer said I still had 60 miles 'til empty with gas gauge on 1/8 tank.

    I did the dead head trip in D with cruise control set to 72-74 mph, and the payload trip in S4 (no cruise control), running between 65 and 75 mph. Trip was 90+% highway (65 & 70 speed limits).
