Tailgate height

Can anyone tell me if the opening height of the back tailgate is adjustable? Thanks.

 

Thats a big negative ghostrider, unless you change out to adjustable height shocks

 

Not adjustable, but members are getting around this by tying something like paracord between a cargo tie down and the nylon loop on the hatch.

 

I thought not, but had to ask.

one would think a 7’ garage door would offer enough clearance.

 

I also threw a bungee in that attaches to the middle and the ceiling hook area so that it pulls the paracord in as I close the door.

 

A strategically placed foam pool noodle or length of water pipe insulation on the garage door itself can keep your hatch from hitting metal. I have pipe foam on the bottom of the door frame and, depending on how far I pull into the garage, with the door up the 4R hatch hits the foam on the license plate or the 4RUNNER garnish.

 

I had to retouch the paint when I got the 4runner. Was baffled that it went so high that it scraped on the metal of the garage door.

 

I ended up making a strap so it limited the height that my tailgate would go so it didn't hit my garage door. Just a steel cable that is rubber coated with eyelets on the end. Works great.

 

No issues with the cable hanging when you close it?

 

No issues and no scratching of the paint. I have never released it to really test the cable but it has been 8 months and works great. Don't have to worry about banging the garage door.

 

I need to do this. Guessing home depot carried the items needed?

 

Any hardware store should have the supplies. I only did one side and when you remove the shock be prepared because the door will not stay up and it is heavy. I just used the following. You will have to play with the length of it to get it just right and I actually used a bigger size cable the first time and then bought the smallest one and it worked great. I actually screwed up the first one and had to do it twice. It is about $10 to make one and it is well worth it. The shrink wrap is perfect to stop any scratching plus it tells me if the cable is starting to come loose and thus far it has not. It's a $10 fix on a 50k vehicle!
