Was wondering why the tumbler on the back hatch don't turn to operate the rear window up and down function.

Has anyone run into this problem before?

    Thanks

On my ‘21 (last one with an actual key) if you insert key in the rear hatch & turn to the left it lowers the rear window. Turn to the right to raise back up.
Just picked up the wife’s ‘22 model & it doesn’t have a tumbler but a push button
    with down/lock option.
If it’s not turning it probably needs cleaning & greased. That area is subject to a lot of dust ! I don’t see what year model 4Runner you have ?

That's interesting - which means you can't lock / unlock all the doors from that location using the key. If you bought it new, Toyota should help with that. If you bought it used, then maybe the lock doesn't match the others for some reason. If it feels like it wants to move in either direction with the key, maybe it just needs some lubrication - such as lock ease.

I picked it up a couple wks ago. I'll look at later next week to see if it's something simple or if will need to be replaced.

If it needs to be replaced i'll have a locksmith rekey it to fit the original key

Was hoping it was something someone has seen already that was a simple fix

I would start with compressed air & then liquid graphite (lock ease) to rule out a sticky lock.

If the key will insert and you can turn it CCW and CW, then I doubt it’s the lock itself. Most likely an electrical issue.

In four years, I’ve used it maybe twice and that was just to see if it worked.

The key will insert but the lock will not move one or the other, I’m thinking the tumbler is fubared
