Hello! Just took the coil overs off on the front of my 2017 SR5 4 runner and one has more coil sections than the other is this normal? And if so which one goes on which side? I know I’m supposed to lay them one the same side as they were taken off but well.. this time I didn’t.

I didn't know one side had more coils than the other side. I would put the one with more coils on the driver's side to correct the driver's side lean.

Do the springs have part numbers stamped on them? Or are there different part numbers stamped on the coilovers themselves?

The front coilovers are side-specific to hold the extra weight on the drivers side (battery, driver, and gas tank)

The drivers side OE coil will be about 1/2” taller than the passenger side. I measured mine when I took them off and replaced.

As others have said, this compensates for the weight of the driver and fuel to help level from side to side.

Aftermarket front springs ( like the Dobinsons I installed) are the the same height on both driver and passenger sides resulting in most lifted 4Runners having a 1/2” lean. I got the 1/2” lean on mine after the lift…

    Cheers,
    Bob

A Tiny 1/4" spacer above the drivers side strut fixes that lean.
