I hear Advics are OEM but I'm having a hard time finding someone that carries their rotors. Where are you getting them?

Or do you have another brand to recommend?

I am constantly driving down a 2000ft mountain every morning and my rotors/pads are taking a beating. I need something durable.

I just redid my whole brake system on my 3rd gen and used Brembo UV coated non drilled rotors with Akebono pads and love them.
They make them for 5th gens too and what I will use when I replace mine on my 5th gen. Just go to Brembos website to get the part number .

    I will look into them.

    Thank you for the suggestion.

Why did you decide against the Brembo pads, if I may ask?

I usually go with Bosch from Amazon for all my cars. No issues yet.

Because I've used Akebono Ceramics on all my vehicles for years and know their stopping quality and that they are ultra low dust.
I haven't used Brembo pads but have used their rotors on my old Lexus and Bmw's sports cars.
Their pads are probably good too but Akebono Pro-Act's are my favorite.

I do this plenty. Often times I’m in 3rd gear going down this hill. But I’m almost at 75k miles now. I get quite a bit of pulsing when braking now. Time to replace.

75 on OEM? I'd go OEM again. I tried so many combinations on my Tacoma with no luck.

I’ll be interested to hear what you go with. I’m not too far behind.

I considered stoptech on my tundra, but I believe OEM is better.

Good to know they’ll last that long in those driving conditions. I’ll second the OEM replacement suggestion. Usually aftermarket options dont match OE performance and durability (at the same time)

My Tacoma is a 2015 TRD Sport. I got sick of the rotors warping quickly after a brake service - even with new rotors from Toyota. I just upgraded my Tacoma to rotors and calipers (new) for a 2015 4 Runner. What a difference some thickness on the rotor makes!! I'm happy with the Tacoma brakes now. I'm approaching 29k on the 4 Runner, but I have liked the brakes so far...

Yes, I have been mostly happy with OEM and have wanted to replace them with the same.

I believe OEM is made by Advics (at lease that's what I've heard). I haven't checked prices from the dealer, but Advics can be purchased elsewhere.......and I'd be willing to bet quite a bit cheaper. Need to double check this. The Advics pads are easy to find (Napa) but the rotors have eluded me thus far. Advics rotors are on Amazon, but I'm always skeptical about counterfeit stuff on Amazon.

Like with me, I'm going to chalk it up to no pad bedding.

I also had a '15 Tacoma (never should have sold that truck...) and had brake pulsing on the factory brakes prior to replacing anything, so if there was a pad bedding issue it had factory origins. Similar to 2Toys, I eventually upgraded to 4Runner calipers, pads, and rotors and was really pleased with the improvement due to the larger calipers/rotors/pads.

Oh wow! That's a much better price than I thought they would be from the dealer. Thanks!

I was gonna say the last time I bought OE rotors for a Honda, I was pleasantly surprises. But when I saw the price in that link, I thought the same as you! That’s cheap! No brainer if you ask me!

    Quick update:

Ordered OEM components and put them on today.

Took me all day, but it wasn't too bad. Got rid of all the braking vibes from my warped rotors and now everything is super smooth.

Big thanks to Wanderlost Overland for their detailed video on the job. They made it A LOT easier on me.

    https://www.youtube.com/embed/SNEJ0Efvv3M

For those tackling the job on their own, my recommendation is to spray plenty of penetrating oil on the caliper bolts....especially the fronts. Those things were a bitch! Broke a socket driver trying to get one bolt loose.

Also, when you order from Toyota, don't assume you get the brake pad retaining clips with the pads. They are sold separately. Ask me how I know :/
