I’m currently carless bc I just sold my 22 OR and before anyone says anything. I had put a deposit for allocation for a pro back in December was told it would be 3-4 months. I waited as long as I could but then found a beauty I couldn’t resist. Forgot to cancel my deposit and get a call last month that the pro is coming in august….did a lot of thinking and decided if I passed on the pro at MSRP I would regret it…so I’m back to square one lol. I just couldn’t pass on it. I’m hoping it comes In 2 weeks like he said but I know the time frame varies. I hope hers comes before her birthday! What a great present

You guys talking about “allocations”…. Does that mean the dealer actually places an order for a specific vehicle and then Toyota fulfills that particular order?

There is no real ordering an exact spec from Toyota and they build to order. My experience was that you tell the dealer what you are looking for (Trim + color preferences) and they try to match you up with vehicles that are allocated to that dealer as they hear from Toyota. So they knew about a month out that they could match me up with what I wanted.

I had asked for a TRD ORP in Lunar Rock which took a while to get. From watching my dealers inventory, I saw 2 of that trim/color option came into the dealer while I waited but were allocated for other people. At one point during my wait, they offered me a different color that what not yet allocated to anyone but I passed.

Toyota doesn't take direct orders. The dealership submits what you want to Toyota in hopes that they get it for allocation. The track their allocations on a sheet and look to see if they have one that matches your specifications or close to it.

For example, I put down a deposit for allocation on 12/14/2021 for a 22 4runner TRD pro in Lime Rush, I asked for blacked out emblems and the emergency assistance kit, that was it. In June I got a call that it had been allocated to the dealership and sent the spec sheet. The one that I am getting is 22 4runner TRD pro, Lime rush, black out emblem overlays and the sliding rear cargo deck. So they matched it the best I can and it should arrive in early August *fingers crossed*

We can only hope but I’m not too sure it will be. I contacted them Saturday (yesterday) and he said nothing had changed as far as “f” status. He said the moment he sees it move he would let us know. Good thing the dealership is 20 minutes away, when we ordered her 21 rav4 they gave us a 24 hr window to pick it up and that dealership was 3-1/2 hours away. (We live in a small town in NM) I had asked for an extension because it was like a Tuesday and couldn’t get off due to work. Asked to speak to the General Manager as he is from my hometown where we currently reside and he allowed us a few extra days to take delivery. Can’t wait for the 4Runner to show up tho we have a list of mods to take care of as soon as it arrives. Tint of course being the first thing I’m going to do to it

When a dealer gets an allocation and a specific VIN, is it still a long ways out from actual receipt of the truck?

Where is the truck sitting at the time the allocation shows up on the dealers sheet? Japan? US Port? Regional distributor?

    Thanks, guys.

If memory serves me correctly just because you have a VIN does not mean it’s built yet.

A year ago once my VIN was assigned my dealer had a lot more comfort that my allocation to his dealership was “locked in”. I still had a few months after that to get built and shipped etal.

I think it’s gets assigned a VIN as soon as it’s allocated, but you’re right it hasn’t even been built at that point. Mine was allocated in May, but I didn’t get an actual VIN until it had been built which I’m assuming was 6/23 when my sales guy emailed me to let me know.

Finally got the call yesterday from the dealership, my black TRD Off Road is in and I can pick up in three days (Jul 28th). I ordered the vehicle Mar 24th, so just over four months to wait here in Canada, Ontario. Interest rate is up on finance, so costing an extra $37 a month . No trying to decide on first, non-voiding warranty, mods.

I was looking for the exact same model at beginning of this year in DFW area in Texas. Put $500 down in mid January. Allocation was only route to go due to chip shortage and lack of inventory nationwide.
Found out early May they got one allocated to the dealer, unit arrived in late June and I picked it up roughly five months after the deposit was placed. Lunar Rock is not made in large quantities, so the wait will likely
(but not guaranteed) be longer than for other colors. Now that I have had mine a month, it was well worth the wait. Now, its time to start the mods.

Allocations (here in DFW area) come twice a month to dealers. That being around the 5th and 20th of every month. The quicker you put your deposit down and specify what you want, the quicker the entire process starts for you/the dealer. I would assume it is similar (allocation dates) in other states and Toyota Regions. With the slim pickings in today market, be prepared to wait and be patient. The dealers cannot get the units to them any quicker. Ports are still backed up and delays are inevitable these days. Deposit placed (1/28), did NOT get my allocation notice until (5/3) to unit arriving at dealer (6/25) it takes time.

Just got the word ours has a VIN and will be here in September!

    4/4/22 - Deposit Down
    9/7/22 - Planned Delivery Date

Located in MI. Our only requirements were a moon roof and 3rd row. It's an SR5 Premium coming black on black with premium panoramic view package and a TRD Pro Exhaust. Our last 5 cars have been Subaru's but I can't stomach the Ascent and our family has grown. Can't Wait!

Picked mine up yesterday, black TRD OR … I guess they’re all Premiums in Canada. Ordered Mar 24th, p/u Jul 28th. Other than a 2021 Limited I test drove at dealership in March, I had never been in a 4Runner. I’m coming from a 2016 Toyota Venza V6 LTD AWD, and after everything I’ve read was worried about road noise and being a dog to drive. The 4Runner Limited I test drove seemed to have crap throttle response. Driving mine home yesterday (albeit being kind to break it in), it is so much quieter than my Venza, and seemed to have a bit more zip than the Limited I drove. Canceled the idea for the Sprint Booster (for now). Speakers seem adequate, but definitely needs a sub.

All in all, happy I went this route vs Jeep. Toyo AT3s ordered (stock size for now), and trying to narrow down a black matte rim for mild off-roading (Black Rino Chamber or RRW RR5-V).

5six - look into some Bronze wheels as well. That bronze on Black will look good. My buddy has a Black SR5 4x4 that he is in process of doing just that: Bronze Wheels and badging.
Once he completes it, he will post some pics.

I'm just curious and clearly too impatient for this waiting process. However, for the last 2 days I have gotten notifications on my toyota app. 4 yesterday and two this morning. The only POI that I have is black emblem overlays...so there isn't much to be done to mine.
    7/18: Arrived at port
7/19: Showed up on dealer website
7/21: Factory window sticker showed up
    7/21: Switched to F Status
7/28: 4 toyota app notifications First 2 early in the am: 2nd two later in the day
    7/29: 2 notifications 16 minutes apart.

I'm hoping the last two mean that maybe it's getting ready for ground transportation. Mind you it's been over 8 months sent I put down my deposit, so now that it is closer I'm getting antsy and impatient

sorry just realized I didn’t ask the question lol

How many notifications did anyone usually get before they switched to ground.

LR_4runner: Once it hits F status, the unit has shipped from Japan and arrived at the Port and in process of getting prepped to ship to regional Toyota terminal.
Once the unit hits G status: that means it has arrived at your region's Toyota Terminal and has processed there and been set for Ground transport to the dealership.

For example: in Texas where I live (Gulf States Region) Most incoming units form Japan arrive in Long Beach Port. From there, they are loaded onto trains and head to Houston (Gulf States' main terminal).
Once they are processed at terminal, they are designated to each state/region and loaded onto 18-Wheel transport trucks and shipped to their specific dealerships.

LR_4runner - I worked for Toyota for nearly 20 years up until recently, so I am "fairly" familiar with the process.

I appreciate the advice, but I’m not a fan of bronze. My goal is to have a complete blackout style. Looking at the costing of bringing the type of wheels I like in from the US is pretty painful when seeing the shipping charges. I think I’ll skip the rims for now, and I’m going to focus on replacing the step rail. Not sure if there is a company in Canada that does them, but it looks like in the short term I’m considering RSG with the top plate that has the grip.

LR_4runner: I do NOT blame you for being ancy at all, 8 months is longer than mine took this year (almost 6 months). The pandemic, chip shortage, supply chain issues and other factors have simply lead to extended lead times when it comes to vehicle orders across the board for all makes and models.
