I have used Fumoto Oil Drain Valves in several of my vehicles over the years to avoid the eventual stripping of the threads in aluminum oil pans and for the convenience they bring.

I’ve never had a problem with one and am considering using one on my 2021 OR when it gets to its first oil change (has 1400 mi) in a couple of months.

I would like to hear what experience others have had using one on a 4R whether it is good or bad before I put one on my OR....

    thanks for your input..

    Works great
Make sure to use a drain tube especially if your 4 is lifted!

I've been using Dimple magnetic drain plugs for years in all my vehicles, and currently have one installed in my 4R since the first oil change. The removable doors in most skid plates (both oem and aftermarket) aren't quite wide enough for my liking. I've already had some oil spill under the skid plate when the drain plug is first removed, and don't want it dripping on my driveway and garage floor. I also don't want to remove skid plates every time I change the oil, so I ordered a Fumoto F133S with the short nipple cap attachment and tubing. Apparently the new Fumoto valves have a much larger orifice to let the oil drain in less than half the time compared to the older ones. Very nice unit, but I haven't installed it yet.

I installed on my 2021 when I changed the oil at 1000 miles but wont have a report on how well it works for another 9000 miles. :D

I have one on my 2018 and on the wife's Subaru.

    Quick and easy.

There doesn't have to be an "eventual" stripping issue just don't break your arm tightening them.

I put one on my 2019 TRD Pro along with replacing the plastic oil filter cap assembly with a metal one. No issues with the Fumoto, these are two upgrades I’m glad I made.

I went with the short nipple (F133S). There is no directional change with the way the oil drains. You could change the direction of the flow with F103SX if that interests you.

I haven't had to use a drain tube on mine because I take off the stock skid plate. If you have an aftermarket skid plate with one of those small, removable windows I could see using a drain tube or getting F103SX.

I bought this same valve for my 4R and it was the best purchase yet. Makes life super easy!! I would highly recommend this for any car/truck really if you are doing your own oil changes.

How thick is the oil pan at the drain? I would assume it's about 3/16" (0.19 inch) if it's steel. I measure 0.45 inch from the end of my Fumoto's threads to where it sits flush at the pan, which doesn't account for the crush washer. I would guess it probably sticks up about 1/4 of an inch above the bottom of the oil pan. It looks like the pan at the bottom is roughly 12" by 4", so that would be approximately 0.2 quarts of old oil remaining in the pan if my estimates are correct. That's nothing to worry about considering there will be almost a full quart of old oil remaining in the engine even if you remove the drain plug and replace the oil filter. It couldn't hurt to remove the Fumoto every now and then to drain any residual crud at the bottom.

Also curious, with the valve in, does it drain the little metal shavings, or they get stuck around the valve ? Like, does the valve come up a bit and it won’t allow the oil to fully drain ? If I have to take it off, then what’s the point of having it in the first place ?

I pulled this from the 2019 Toyota Repair Manual. I don't think this engine is unique in this regard.[IMG]

Fumoto claims on their FAQ page that the threads should be flush with the bottom of the pan on most vehicles. I'll try to measure and verify it when I do my next change.

My pleasure! I suppose it could be worse right? I hear Bugatti charges something like $25k for an oil change because they have to take the entire engine apart to get out all the old oil.

I love mine. Fits under the stock skid so no chance of damage. Got clear plastic tubing from Lowe’s, which slows the drain a bit but makes it super clean to run directly inside the pan. Easy peasy.

Just installed yesterday on my 2021 with RCI aluminum skid plates, I flushed 3/4 quart through the valve to test. The hole in the skid plate is more than big enough to not make a mess, works great, well next time I will enjoy it.

We have the benefit/pain of having a cartridge oil filter. Im thinking about shoving a small, coin size magnet in mine next oil change

I have used their valves before on other vehicles without issues. I went with Stahlbus on the Runner and GTO. It was mostly to try something new but it has been a good product on both vehicles.

    Interesting.
The front diff, rear diff, and transfer case have OEM magnetic drain plugs. But not the engine oil drain plug. At least for my 2018. Maybe Toyota didn’t think it was necessary since the filtration is so good.
You’ve been using an after market magnetic plug?

If one does his or her oil changes at the 5000 mile intervals, and to the dealer for the 10k intervals, will the dealer be able to handle the Fumuto valve? Or is it asking for trouble?

I installed a Fumoto oil valve on my wife’s 2013 Mazda CX-9 when it was new. She takes it to the dealer for all oil changes and other service and having the Fumoto valve on has never been an issue….. I would say it depends on the dealer but I’ve not experienced an issue..

    Cheers,
    Bob

I explained to a service writer at a dealership, that we went to for the 10k 'free' oil change that we had a Fumoto valve and ask him "do you know what I'm talking about?" You could have heard a pin drop, as the 'puzzled look' came over his face. Luckily.. a tech was standing within earshot and said "yeah, I've dealt with several." The service writer boy told him, "you have the job of changing oil on this one." So while there may be some people that have NOT heard of these types of drains, their popularity is increasing daily. They are not something 'new', as they have been used on construction equipment new from the factory, and other applications where oil is a bit harder to change. We have them on things at home ranging from our Arctic Cat 4 stroke snowmobile to our lawn tractor to our 4Runner, no failures, they are pretty full proof.

    I have valvomax
its a more elaborate design with dust cover.
I have use them for so many of my vehicles for years, never any problematic issue.

The only slight problem is on some later model year Toyotas such as Venza, RAV4, Corolla, there's very tiny clearance between the plug and plastic underbelly cover. It'll bend the cover a little, but not a functional problem.

On the 4Runner it works perfectly with RCI skid plate access

yeah Fumoto has an Amazon store front. Started using Fumoto's on my Blazers 20 years ago and almost every vehicle all along. Had one or two where I did not due to clearance concerns but never had an issue with them.
