Hi all, I'm definitely new to this whole forum this. I've been wanted to make modifications & lift my 4R but just trying to figure out where, how much, etc.

I just don't know where to start. Im super new to this whole thing, & new to even wanted a lift & all. I do however, wanna get me already made baby pink emblems, but I have no idea where to find those. Any help at all please????

Also, I'm thinking a 2.5 - 3" lift. I've seen a few pink colored suspensions & coils etc. but again, don't know anything about this stuff. So anyone wanna tell me what are my basic 411 needs right now.

    Thank you all in advance!

Enjoy as it is right now. Good looking rig already. No need to rush. Plan out whats important to you first, what type of wheeling or are you still heading the trails. Then you will know where to start and how extreme you will go. Look for the end goal, not just something you saw or others are doing/adding. The rig itself is very good already stock, not much more you can add.

Start out small I say. Simple as putting on a sticker to give you 5 hps lol jk, all the way to regearing, complete new suspension w/40 inches tire..its endless.

Theres plenty of good info in here and on other forums. Welcome and enjoy with good health.

I think of modifications as the path. The capabilities they add are the destination. So consider where you want to go (figuratively speaking) and then prioritize your modifications accordingly.

How do you envision using your truck? Conquering every obstacle at Moab? Weekend warrior on local fire roads and trails? Towing a teardrop trailer on a cross-country National Park tour? Or just as a means to get a little further out into nature?

OK, I'll bite. You want *pink* on and under your truck?

My best advice is to do a lot of research on this forum. Tons and tons of stuff right at your fingertips. When you find a thread you like, bookmark it. And keep going. I have nearly 100 bookmarks for 4Runners. That way you can go back and review the threads that answer your questions. Generally speaking, you won't get much help if you ask questions that have been done to death for the last 10 years and only need a quick search. 4Runners.com tends to help those who help themselves first :D

Too many..... Performance: • Magnusum Supercharger • Gibson exhaust with dual black tip • Pedal Commander * PowerBrakes • Suspension – Old Man Emu BP-51 front and back with Medium load coils • Tires: AT3 Faulken Wildpeak – 285/70/17 • Wheels: Relations Race Wheels, RR7-H with -12 offset • Full roof rack and ladder by Westcott Design (removed the stock Yakima basket) • Molle storage panels by Rago fabrication • Front light brackets by Rago • Illuminator light bracket by Rago (roof rack location) Lights • Morimoto front and back with sequential signals • Morimoto fog lights and side mirrors with sequential signals • 40” Baja design light bar for roof rack • 20” S8 Baja design driving combo (winch location) • Squadron sport baja design ditch lights • S2 Chase lights by baja designs (mounted on roof) In the bay: • Odyssey 34-PC Battery • SDQH Aluminum billet battery terminals and bracket • Switch Pro 9100 with aluminum tray • Anytime front and back camera • ARB twin compressor Recovery & Protection: • Smittybilt X20 synthetic rope winch • Factor 55 fairlead and flatlink • Southern Style Off-road (SSO) low profile bumper • SSO stage 2 high clearance wings • Weekend warrior recovery kit by treaty oak • RCI – skid plates – entire vehicle + catalytic converter protection wings Interior: • Nano Ceramic IR – Avery Dennison Window tint – all windows • Several phone mounts • Upgraded Rear Hatch lift gate struts (ladder is heavy) • Boom blaster horn switch (featuring La cucaracha)
Put a supercharger - that mod will improve your driving experience. It is certainly getting me motivated to go to work and find a second or third job to pay for it.

PC836 gave you the right way to start with it. I always start things backwards so don't listen to me. Enjoy every step of the way and understand the vehicle inside out so the mod gives you happiness and fulfillment.

This thing could become a money pit. Many would agree, but it makes us happy and that is what this vehicle is all about. Show us more.

Thanks all! I've had my 4R for more then a year already, & so far I've just added a pink tow hitch lol. Been tweaking in it by just doing car detailing on it to make bit still feel new lol. But as for mods, I've been wanting to lift like 3-4" with those pink coils & what not. But like I said, still new so doing research.

I appreciate you all & look forward to hearing more.

Is this a purpose built vehicle or do you just want mods for the sake of modding?

Welcome to the modification side of the 4unner community. It is fun but also sometimes a pain in the ass. If you have any suspension related questions feel free to send me a DM!

Are you wanting a lift for increased load capacity (stiffer coils) or to fit larger tires for better ground clearance? If it is just for looks like 99% of the lifted mall crawler Wranglers, maybe just do some small coil spacers for 1-2" lift/level and call it good. Once you start lifting, you can create other issues. What you have now is spectacular- remove the running boards (which makes it almost appear to have a lift when they are gone) and black out the emblems and roof rails and it would really pop.

    Hi there.

I, too, am learning as I go on here with mods. I bought mine with the Ironman Nitro Gas stage 3 suspension kit (3" lift) already installed, but I did drive plenty of stock 4runners prior to purchasing and can tell you that the ride is much different. I love the way she moves and handles on and off road. I don't do a ton of legit off roading, but do haul quads around to play in, and such. She travels a good amount on gravel, mud, and dusty roads in the warmer months.

Others have installed Ironman 4x4 Foam Cell Pro Suspension. Maybe check it out for yourself: https://ironman4x4america.com/

Other mods that I've personally done have been minimal, but little add ons can make a huge difference! I painted my roof rails, changed out my taillights, and also my mirror turn signals to get a more complete blacked out look. Currently I am coating my nerf bars as paint was flaking and I want something more heavy duty on there.

Many will cringe ( the hate is strong here on forum on this), but I added a bull bar to the front and so far it has stopped 2 folks from tapping my bumper when backing up. I also have a hitch step that helps access the rear roof when needed ( washing and waxing, installing or uninstalling sport rack, etc.). I added raptor lights (another item that has a lot cringe on here), and weather tech rain guards.

Next...who knows? I'm looking into being more mechanically comfortable with my rig. Going to learn how to change the oil myself this next time around as dealerships have pissed me off one too many times. Also will need brakes in the fall so will be learning that, too.

People here are so knowledgeable and helpful. Research a lot and don't be afraid to ask questions if you are unable to find your answers. Most will help without hesitation. Good luck and welcome!

Thanks! Mines is just for looks honestly. Just the thought of being a bit higher when driving seems appealing. Lol. But yeah, I'm thinking of changing running boards to just the steps. Roof racks I want the blacked out ones but nothing fancy. Thanks for the input! Really helps me!

Hey! Thank you so much for the links, & for sharing your experience! I appreciate it!!! I'm just slowly modifying my 4R & not in any rush to make drastic changes. Just when I see fit. I have been thinking about adding a bull bar bc in hawaii people no scared for reverse like crazy lol. I'm sure it'll help in the long run.

Question: How high of a lift can a person go, if they wanted to keep their stock tires???

As high as you want, tire size has no bearing on lift height. That being said, the truck doesn't like anything above 3" without major modifications.
