Gave a nice hand wish today to notice it looks like rust or something starting already on the hood? Thing is a 2022 that never seen salt and doesn’t park by or under trees...what the hell!

My hood has water spots that burned into the paint.

I’m not sure either. Water beads up and sits there. My T4R spends most of the time in a garage too.

Looks either like bird poop or waterbead in the sun. Seems to be clearcoat only. Clean nice, wash, dry and wax the hell outta it.
Paint is a weak point on these vehicles.
Don't worry, this is only the beginning and it will get worse.

I am sorry to see this. Looks like a small chip or something grazed it.

I was afraid of this stuff to and had Xpel put on my hood, front bumper, and mirrors etal. I am hoping it prevents issues such as this.

After looking again I wonder could it be a paint defect from the factory where it just got clear coat? I have had paint imperfections on other cars that were brand new.

What I see is really almost a perfect circle ⭕️ So I that makes me wonder if it’s a paint defect as opposed to a Chip way. Hard to tell from pic.

I don’t see any rust in your pic unless it’s my eyes are not picking it up.

Clay bar will fix that. It’s a pain, and it takes multiple times, but I found it out the hard way

Thanks for the tip. I have a clay bar for removing rail dust after I wash my car. I’ll give it a try.

As a detailer, let me offer some advice. First, your picture is not close up enough to truly tell what's happening there, but it does appear to be acidic bird poop which will etch the paint. If the paint is indeed etched, a clay bar will not fix the problem. Why? Because clay is for removing imbedded surface contaminates. Using clay incorrectly - such as repeatedly rubbing one area - will damage the paint even more.

So, what do you do if the paint is indeed etched? Again, without laying hands on your hood, I can't tell you with 100% certainty, but I can offer some general advice. If the etching is not too severe, a good detailer or collision shop might be able to wet sand and polish the defect out. If it's really deep - such as through the clear coat - you may need to get the hood repainted. And unless you've got some experience with correcting paint defects, I would not recommend trying to fix it yourself or with any of the "as seen on TV" miracle products.

There is no rust, I think it’s a defect or as others stated somehow bird shit or something caused that but it’s a perfect circle, seeing what the shitty dealer says I’m trying to claim this as a defect under the 60 month corrosion warranty. I take very good care of the vehicle and clean it often. Never had that defect or damage on any other vehicle I have ever owned.

I took it to my trusted detailer who was in business for 40+ years, he thinks something ate into the paint or is a defect. He was the first person I went to for advice.

As @Too Stroked said, it's tough to tell from the picture but does appear to be etched. It doesn't look like a paint defect IMHO.

This (above). Hope you're able to get it repaired without respraying the entire or portion of the hood. As Too Stroked said, your best option is having a professional do a little color sanding, followed up with a compound, followed up with a polish. Then, some sort of LSD (last step protection). Hope you get your car back to how you like it!!!! Sorry this happened.

@Too Stroked - It's amazing how often we see the word "wax" on this forum, isn't it? LOL

Personally, I haven't applied a "wax" to anything other than a few special requests from customers in the last 10 years. There are far better products available these days.

Personally, I like JESCAR Power Lock as a polymer sealant. Much easier both on and off than any wax - and it lasts about twice as long.

Both of my personal vehicles are ceramic coated and I like the coatings even better. They last even longer than the polymer sealants and I really like the super glossy shine. My current favorite coating is Carpro CQuartz UK 3.0

    Hope that helps.

All of the above are great products. My cars are ceramic coated as well, I have Gtechniq CSL and Exo V4, which was kind of a pain. On the 4Runner I actually just have the Adam's spray coating - kind of a gimmicky brand but have been impressed with it.

If one doesn't want to or is intimidated by coatings, I love Gtechniq C2V3. It's also a sealant, wipe on wipe off, lasts about 4 months on an outdoor car and if you layer it, it will even fill in imperfections (swirl marks or similar).

I completely agree. This will be remedied with clay bar and polish and wax. My wife's 2018 Nautica Blue 4R had same issue. All gone now.

For what it is worth, a few years back I bought a Buick that had multiple bird poop etchings on the hood, very noticeable. Took it to a reputable body shop and for less than $200 had them buffed out. Waxed the car and it looked great until I sold it to buy my 4Runner.

How much should it cost to ceramic coat a 2022 4Runner? I'm new to all of this as well and was thinking of having the clear bra put on the front of my ORP. Any advice would be great.

For Xpel on front bumper, hood, and mirrors I paid $1,200. Sorry I like it.

I am not familiar with ceramic costs sorry but others are here.

    Kinda looks defecty to me….

Ive had similar in some other cars in the past. But I dont think Ive seen on any on the 4runner came out pretty good from the factory.

A few weeks ago I did a couple of coats of turtle wax ceramic spray with the hope of letting branches glide over the paint instead of pinstripe it. The spray actually took the edge off previous pinstripes, which was a plus.

I went on the trails earlier this week, and dragged the rear quarter through a tree. I say tree, because branches flex and bend…. But this one didnt. It sounded like I got beat up by a tree. Tree mugged. One little dent in the door from it, but I have hopes the associated stripes will kind of come off when I take the mud off. Lol. One can hope.
