Then I'll just stick with the other part of my post, which pointed out that 4Runners are cheaper now than they were then, even with all of the extra stuff you're being "forced" to pay for. So, you're actually not paying extra for them.

Part of the reason a lot of that stuff is included is to streamline manufacturing. It's probably the reason we're getting more for less on the current 4Runner. It would probably drive the price up, even on base models, to have those options.

Aside from that, 99.9% of buyers want AC and power windows, locks, etc. Toyota did themselves, and their customers a favor by just including that stuff on every trim.

Edit: I await the replies from the other 2 or 3 people on this forum who also don't want power windows. :crapstorm:

Who cares? This never shows everything anyway.
Does it exist in my 4Runner? Then I paid for it. I could have paid less money to not have it.

Except for your manufacturing streamlining argument, which is probably more valid than not. Even I've figured it'd cost vehicle manufacturers more to put in crank windows these days because everybody wants power windows.

But holy crap, I just would love the option to not have to pay for that stuff! Hypothetically, if it was economically possible, my 4Runner would have cost less than I paid for it, so even if it costs less than or equal to or whatever compared to an older 4Runner, that still would have been less absolute money I would have spent on it.

I prefer manual windows. The rear hatch window has to be power though.

They also figured we all wanted tow hitches and wiring connectors standard. Almost every other manufacturer charges an arm and a leg for that.

Can you believe I turned down a 22 Camry Pro over the XSE top of the line. I wanted all the bells and whistles. I probably would not have used the Pro what it was intended for. Lol.

I honestly don't think it would be cheaper.

I don't think a manual window would cost any less to manufacture (at least not significantly), and then that's more stuff Toyota needs to engineer, and more tooling at the factory. So, I really think it's cheaper just having the one option.

This is probably why we don't have a manual transmission option, either. Most people wanted an automatic, so they only make that. I would love to have a manual, but I don't mind the automatic.

I'm not saying that I wouldn't want people to have these options. I just don't think it would actually make the 4Runner cheaper. If anything, the stripped down version would probably cost what we pay now, and we'd have to pay extra for some power package.

Edit: I also don't use the AC much. But, it's nice to be able to blast it for a few minutes when it's been sitting in the sun all day. Otherwise, I usually drive with the windows open as well.

Yes! And I appreciate it. :D I don't tow a ton, so it would have sucked to have to pay extra for something I'll use a few times a year.

Personally, I would never own a vehicle with roll down windows again. I did when I was younger and hated them. When power windows became standard, it was about time. Last vehicle I owned without them was a 1990 Nissan Hardbody picked. I don't drive much at all unless we have to go to Raleigh for a specialist for my wife so an EV would be fine for me but not for the long trips. A hybrid would be much better even though I get 35 mpg in my 2010 corolla.

Ah yes the glory days of manual roll down/up windows, wing window vents and those vents at the bottom of the footwell that had the louver controllers to open and close, now those were the days

Although the station wagons my folks drove did have a power roll down/up rear window.

Well now I don't know how to feel anymore!

I'd be all for the manual transmission. But, I like being able to open every window from the driver's seat.

@TRDLE I see you used your the argument that gas prices were going up prior to Biden taking office. But I did not see your reply to this reply to your post. Are you taking the political look over here tactic when they don’t want you to notice your right about things.

It's nice to dream. I'd still rather have a turbo 4 that makes more power and gets better fuel economy than the 1GR.

    Perfect!

Personally, I think political ads should be illegal. Anyone who is voting based on a commercial should not be allowed to vote.

In my opinion sadly for whatever reason all this is plotting Americans against each other and should stop. I am in my 40s and the only time I saw this country pull together as an adult was was after 9/11.

From coast to coast everyone flew American flags from their car and wore lapel pins of the flag and red white and blue was everywhere.

Everyone helped everyone else and we all supported each other through a tragedy as citizens.

We need that kind of patriotism and sense of being again. I come from a long line of family of veterans and I assure you they did not serve for tense times like these.

That sense of patriotism and being one provides strength and resilience on its own.

Maybe we should pull out those car flags again, and wear our USA flag pins again, it certainly cannot hurt.

We all have had our frustrated moments myself included. Let’s be proud of where this country came from and what it is.

If we lose our patriotism totally and continue against one another we will lose what our families fought so hard for us to have.

This is a great idea but will not happen until we implement some serious change politically. Term limits for starters. I’m a bit ahead of you in age and I fear things will get much, much worse before they get better. This conversation about EVs is a prime example of how divided we are.
