The second quote is how I feel because I know the first quote means I’m paying $10 in gas possibly which is what they want so we will get rid of these vehicles. If I wasn't in a lease I wouldn't be thinking of trading, but I wanted options. I will blow past my 36K mile lease so my options will not be the same.

I'd expect a big price hike for the 6th gen, that's one of the things that pushed me to buy a 5th gen when I did

Hopefully by then they'll have the bugs worked out of the 6th gen.

Thats the hope or actually we will have someone that can get the gas prices back to normal and then I don't care about mileage.

There will not be anywhere to go or anything to buy if gas hits $8-$10/gallon that will put us well beyond a recession.

The current 4runners are the vehicles thirty and forty year-olds will be drooling over in the year 2060.

To a guy like me, the valuable thing about them is that they are known quantities. The new 6th gen platform wont have this advantage for another 20 years. Sure, gas prices and gas availability may make it difficult to justify in the future, but by then there will probably be electric conversions you could put into these. A well kept 4runner will be worth putting money into compared to buying new. Since this 4runners architecture has been around so long and is so well regarded, I think the chances of some company making an electrification conversion for these is good. I would not mind one bit setting mine up as an electric rig :)

But that’s only IF gas gets impossible to buy. Gas is way too tied into our society to become impossible to buy. This transcends politics. I think modern transportation and shipping only exists because of petroleum. US society, and much of society in the world exists because of petroleum. We would not be much different than “old europe” without petroleum.

And the world as we know it includes the stock market, and they need little people, like us, to play ball. The stock market does not want us living in extended family units, tending to our gardens, and needing less (even if that would make for a better society).

Therefore, it stands to reason that market forces will reign in gas prices to keep this current society going as long as possible. Especially if the little people actually start to like our gardens and end up buying less, causing the demand for transportation/shipping and petroleum to tank (no pun intended).

TLDR: A 20mpg turbo hybrid 4runner (and a new loan to go with it) isn't gonna convince me to trade in my 17mpg 4runner.

If you needed it, you wanted it, and if you were fortunate enough to find one and if you could afford it, you bought it! Simple supply and demand! I paid $2,000 above MSRP, but I received $4,000 more on my trade-in than I expected! No regrets!

30mpg or I'm not selling. I'm moving 1 mile from work to cut down on transportation as much as possible. Once both of my parents are gone I will be able to save even more gas.

Or, you could have traveled a bit and paid MSRP. Or, waited. :notsure:

I've never needed or wanted a vehicle bad enough to pay over MSRP. I get it with limited editions, etc, but we're talking about 4Runners.

Then again, if it had happened a few years earlier, I might have been one of those assholes. Or, I might still be driving my Tacoma. Who knows.

If they get 30 MPG without completely watering down the 6th gen, it may very well be worth an extra $10K! Especially since I am looking at around $7500/year in fuel at current prices.

I'm lucky right now because I go to my 85 year old parents house once a week to take care of them and their house. Plus drive them to get food, run errands, etc. My parents won't let me pay for gas so they pay my gas right now. I felt bad at first, but I'm the only one that takes care of them and was spending $60 just to go see them so I don't feel as bad now. If I paid $7500 in gas a year, I would have to drive a hybrid as I don't make enough money for those kinds of prices.

I will chime in. Yes you will pay especially if you are planning on getting a Pro. I was recently in talking with my salesman I deal with. I have bought numerous Pros from there dealership. He told me they have one tundra Pro coming in LunaRock same color as mine. They will be marking it up 4000 over msrp on top of that roughly 70,000. I paid 56 for my Pro. There is no way I will be moving up to a new tundra pro for almost 20,000 more. Especially since my Pro is paid for and spends most of the time in the garage because I drive my new 22 Camry all the time especially the awesome gas mileage in it. I just use my truck when needed. So the new 4Runners Pros will be pricey too. It’s not going away.

And for those of you that don't have cash to pay it only gets better with .75% increase by the fed today.

It might. In a few years, if we're in a full recession and nobody is buying cars, they'll lower the prices.

The writing is on the wall here boys. This economy is going to bust, layoffs are coming, I am sure people losing their jobs, rents are skyrocketing, adults moving back into their parents home due to high rent.

Stellantis announced the first of rounds of layoffs today, I have some friends at GM telling me the same is going to take place there in Q3, Tesla lays off 10% of its workforce, Redfin announced layoffs today, and I am at an auto supplier that doing the same....and all of this is just the auto industry.

Can you imagine getting laid off which is bad enough let alone with 8% inflation and trying to feed your family?

Just to clarify, I don't personally begrudge anyone here who paid extra for their 4Runner. It was just a gripe about the market in general.

I'm sorry if it came out that way, @YetiMtnBkr .

Hey James, I feel the same way about anyone paying over msrp. Everyone’s priorities are different. If they choose to do that and need or want that vehicle it’s what it is. I just know for me personally when I got my new 22 Camry XSE from the same dealer they had a hard time getting it. Because of the model I wanted. But I paid msrp. I will not pay over. I did not pay over for my 21 tundra pro either.

Yeah I'm sure the value of my house is going to plummet 20% anytime now but those Toyota msrp's are going nowhere but up. Funny how that works out. World ain't what it seems is it gunny?

Who cares? This never shows everything anyway.
Yeah, nah. I'm not a fan of this prices going up and up and up nonsense. At this rate, I'll never move into a house, at least not without my parents dying and I sell their house and use that money for something that'll more match my needs. I'm not going to be making the money to justify it now though I would have been able to justify it in the past if I was born just a few years earlier and had the opportunity to save for a down payment. Don't give me this stimulus checks BS either. Nobody got that much stimulus money. I got rock sliders with my stimulus. I didn't run out and buy a friggin' Rav4 or three.

The forecast for millennials buying new homes is not good sadly. As rents go up and salaries don’t some are going back home too.

Buying that house will become increasingly difficult as Fed raises the interest rates as your maximum payment will not get you the same total purchasing power.

Sad to see that American dream go away for so many.

But on the other hand as rates go up, the crazy home prices should come down as demand should drop due to interest rates. Hopefully anyway. I'm sick of the values going nuts and the resulting increase in property tax.

That is a great point and true. First time buyers will just need more cash upfront to get in though. If you are sitting on cash to your point this is in your favor.

I agree on property taxes too it’s crazy with the home increases the last few years.

I guess it depends what stage of life you are in and if you have cash as to how you view it.

All good, no worries! I probably would not buy it today. At the time I was very busy with work. The stock market was kicking ass! Life was good! Still is - I am 60 and my family of five is healthy and happy, and that is all that really matters. My work has slowed down and my retirement account has dropped 30% since November! It's just a car, I could sell it tomorrow and I would not be heart broken. I care more about my mountain bike when it comes to my materialistic concerns! No worries brother - no offense taken! I just wanted to make a point that everyone's situation is different! Plus, I am self employed and it is a tax write off for me!

Congrats, you're one of the reasons for price hikes. "I've gotta have a new vehicle. Why? Because I want to." Congrats on overpaying and justifying toyota's price hike. Society is so wrapped up in having new vehicles and shiny things.

Sure I will buy another new vehicle from Toyota. IF they put the correct amount of oil in it and they don’t bend rims?
