I recently purchased a 2016 4Runner Limited. It's great. I am looking for a phone mount for my iPhone. My phone sits nicely in the center dash when the clock read out is. I was wondering if anyone has come across a phone mount that fits there. I thought about just putting a non-slip pad there and resting the phone on the spot, which would work as long as I'm not off-road or bumping around.

    Any thoughts?

Not quite exactly where you want it, but maybe look into ProClip mounts. They are not too bad and have options where you don’t have to stick a magnet to your phone.

off to the side, and a little drilling involved but it's stable as hell. RAM mount with short arm and diamond base. If I were doing over, I'd have done the round oneaY_kJ4D2lIy2BChJ15bS-82mvQumybcaqEZvrrrU_c538e2f0fcface09836131318bb85df7036d013f.jpg

Exactly what I'm looking to do! Any chance you can shoot a picture of your setup with the phone removed?

here's a few. you can see the extra hole I accidentally made....I should have looked under that panel before I ordered parts; I probably would have gotten the round baseplate rather than the diamond but I was thinking surface area...

@tombiology70 here's another one I made up for my drum kit. I'm a big fan of RAMs stuff. we use them a lot at work for wheelchair mounted accessories. rigged everything from drink holders to gun mounts (for competitive shooting) all kinds of mix and match parts

I have the ICS mod as well, and when you sit in the driver's seat the bracket doesn't even extend above the dash in my line of sight. to put it another way. i can see all of the hood with or without the ICS Fab bracket there. Might be different with driver height...

What do you mean the round base? This one? Would the round base fit in the same section?
    https://www.rammount.com/part/RAM-202U

Also would stay with the short arm, or would the med length improve the functionality? I'd like to position it a bit more to the right in front of the vent, but clear the vent by a few inches

I think there's a smaller base, that one might be too big. I honestly don't remember...maybe thats why I went with the diamond one. as for the arms, I've added a connector and another arm to clear the vent better. I worried that the extra length would load the base too much and maybe pull out of the dash trim but had it like this a year or so now with no issues

Thanks! Looks like you are using two short arms and a ball extension. That looks great.
    The RAM
website is very confusing at first.

yeah they have an overwhelming array of parts and possible configurations. I work in a wheelchair/mobility clinic and we use their stuff to hold phones,iPads, drink holders and in at least one case to steady a rifle (competitive shooting) great stuff but can be like Lego for grownups.

Installed my RAM mount. I’m very pleased with the quality and how permanent the mount is. Over the years I’d see another phone mount to try, vent clip, suction mount, etc, etc… in the end the RAM mount comes through. I hesitated last year because of the cost, however I don’t think I’ll need to get another mount again!
I used the ball, a short arm, double ball joint, med arm and large phone holder.

also a tip for anyone installing this. You must use a few washers and a locking washer to get maximum strength otherwise the plastic you drill through flexes and makes a noise everytime it flexed. The solution is to use a large 1” fender washer, then another smaller fender washer, then a locking washer on the inside. On the outside use a black nylon washer the same size as the ball post. This prevents the plastic from digging in and marking up the plastic when tightening down the ball post.

I also purchased the larger tablet holder for using navigation when driving longer distances. I’ll use cellular data from the phone, tethered to the tablet.

also another pro tip, Amazon has all of these parts sold through RAM Mount store which if you have Prime, you have free shipping and no hassle returns, vs buying them direct and paying shipping.

    see pics!

i saw that too and it’s 3D printed, there were comments from users about wanting it injected molding. I’m curious if that product infringed on another patent as they seem to be pretty quiet the last year and same status on their site

One-at-this-price stripper. Bought new 34 yrs ago, a $13K leftover. Added Detroit TruTrac, 1”rear spring spacer and “pinstripes”… Factory AC kit and roof rack bought at dealer cost at time of purchase, still blows ice cold 32yrs later. 2022 AG ORP all stock.
A tech support/sales guy at GPS City.com was a huge help in finding solutions to my old 4Runner, ATVs and SxS device mounting. He even found Ram package deals that I missed and saved me a few bucks. There are a LOT of options and having someone knowledgeable made it easy. Just tell them what you want to hold(model of phone, tablet, case/no case….etc) and they can steer you in the right direction. If I get a chance I’ll take some pics.

This holds my iPhone SE2/Otter case perfect.

This holds my Samsung 8” tablet w/bargain rubber case securely for my GPS display. https://www.gpscity.com/ram-mount-universal-tablet-mount-tab-tite-4-cradle-rugged-case-ram-hol-tab4u

I use the Ram windshield suction mount for two reasons…..I transfer the GPS between vehicles(two 4wds, soon to be three) and I don’t like drilling holes if I don’t have to.

The ProClip mount is still my favorite mount for the 4R. Strong, doesn't shake/vibrate and the AC vent keeps it cool.
