I honestly think that Gen2 is the best looking era of T4Rs!

Could it be?!?! Yes! After nearly two years, I actually found a 2nd Gen T4R in the wild! A 1994 SR5 with a 5-speed handshaker, and believe it or not this is not the worst-looking 2nd Gen I've ever seen (not including the one I saw crushed by a monster truck in New Jersey)!


May 15th, 2022:

Original owner, stripped, zero options bare bones 1990 22RE/5spd with OEM AC, hubs, 1” rear spring spacer, TruTrac and roof rack added.

 

So A/C is about the only option it has? Is it still R-12 or has it been converted to R134a?

No AC, CC, PW, PL, PS, PM, Radio…..nothing….2 speed wipers and of course a power rear window.
AC was not a installed option on the lot, you could get a complete Toyota OEM AC kit from the dealer then. This was among four stripped, late year “One at this price, $12,999” newspaper specials. No one wanted the 4cyl then and I was actually able to get them to throw in the AC kit, rear mat, roof rack and running boards(deceased) in at dealer cost. A seasoned Toyota mechanic buddy and I installed the kit and for a case of beer he brought it into work, pumped it down and backfilled it with R-12 and it still blows ice cold. All the factory silver paint flaked off the wheels so I refurbished/sanded them and coated with metallic charcoal rattle can 7yrs ago, best paint work I’ve ever done. Driver’s side has a bit of trail rash, not quite as pretty.
I had a 86 Xtra Cab and my wife had a 2 seater and we were going to have a baby…… needed a cheap, reliable family vehicle.
Edit: one option…..a clock.

The rash has been somewhat diy body-worked out since the photo. That tree on the other side of Goldie is blocking the view of the road up to Tahoe. I’ll dig up more pics, I know I have one of it when it was brand new.

 

I was gonna say; I'm pretty sure that power steering and power brakes were the bare minimum of standard features by 1990! I saw a brand new base model SR5 at a dealership in New Jersey today, and they wanted $2,180 over MSRP for this thing; The total was over $46K for a base model with no leather seats or sunroof. I understand that the market is hot and supplies are low right now, but where do we draw the line between "supply and demand" and just being a dickhead to the consumer?!?!

 

Goldie has been the most versatile, reliable vehicle we have ever owned…..I guess that’s why it’s still it in our fold and always will be. The wife has pestered me in in the recent past to either sell it our give it to one of our kids, NFW…..over my dead body, she isn’t going anywhere. If you care to, check out Goldie’s 32yr story in my past posts on this site, she has been like a loyal dog, tail wagging, always happy to go and full of fun memories. She is my around town errand runner and trail machine now in my retirement. I have a SxS, which is fun but to haul friends/gear out into the high desert/mountains to go plinking and exploring, Goldie is the ticket. I am very lucky, my backyard is a bizillon acres of seemingly endless BLM land/trails. Goldie and I will live out our days here, although she will probably will outlive me…..
On a newer and exciting note, the ship with our new 22 AG ORP just docked at Long Beach last night! The nearly 6 month wait is almost at the end, YAY! The new kid will have a tough act to follow.

 

I'm guessing that in Nevada, your frame is in pretty good condition? Also, a Toyota dealer in Nevada was selling an SUV without A/C?!?!
