Hey everyone - thought I'd take a chance here. I purchased a Black Horse grille guard. It fits all 4Runner's 2010 to present. In order for them to fit the different models and years they include several different top brackets that mount to the frame. The bottom ones I believe are all the same. Now the top brackets (that should be) included have 3 different styles: 2010 - 2013 (I have a 2012 SR5) that take these long brackets (figure 9 in the instructions) and 2014 & on take different brackets and so on. Currently this grille guard is on at least a 45 day backorder so I cannot exchange it (supply chain bs). Of course, my luck, the top brackets I need were missing from the package. Now I have the top brackets that fit other 4Runners, just not the ones I need for my 2012. My question is does anyone have or know anyone that has installed this grille guard on say a 2014 or newer and maybe have the brackets that were included (they wouldn't need) that would fit my 2012? Not sure if they would keep them on the shelf or throw them away...I'd be happy to give someone the top brackets I don't need. Thanks!

Hey thanks everyone for not replying at all. Guess this is a forum where you flex your add-ons. I got it installed through my ingenuity. No help from anyone or even the manufacturer. So no help or comments for me so don't expect me to help you with yours. This forum is a joke. Ha ha and bye bye

I think the answer to your question is no. Speaking for myself, I wouldn’t reply to something like that since I have no knowledge of the Black Horse product line. Hopefully your ingenuity will land you on a forum of folks who appreciate your contributions. Bye.

Haha so you bought a product that a vast majority of this forum doesn't use. Then, you had a very specific problem and wanted somebody with the exact opposite but same specific problem to help you. On top of all that you waited a whole eight days for somebody to give you their stuff in exchange for your stuff...

All you have provided to this forum is four posts about your grill guard. We don't owe you anything.

You will not be remembered, you will not be missed.

Few things. For what you paid for this ugly thing you could have almost bought a bumper. Second, this ugly grill "guard" won't protect your grill. It will probably make it worse in an accident. Finally have I said this thing is ugly and most 4R owners have better taste than to put this on their 4R.

    Welcome to the forum, @Patriot

Sometimes, nobody replies to a new thread and it gets bumped to the bottom of the page. You could have posted again a few days later to bring it back to the top.

I can assure you there are tons of smart, helpful people around here. But, it seems like you already made your mind up.

I'm going to go out on a limb here @Patriot and pass on not to get your panties in a twist so quickly here. Toughen up a bit, you will need a much thicker skin here.

There used to be a company called Steel Horse that provided similar products...new iteration of Steel Horse maybe?

Well, back in the day, (cue the “Misty water-colored memories” music) when vehicles had sealed beam headlamps, where the whole headlamp was a bulb, what we then called brush guards would prevent branches from breaking the headlamps and puncturing the radiator. They are not useful in a collision (and possibly detrimental) but they weren’t meant for that purpose.

I get that but that guard doesn't have any real useful function AT ALL in the present day. It doesn't even look good.

EVERYBODY needs to lighten up here! Sure, the newbie was a bit of an upstart/impatient but, HEY, we all were newbies once and knew little about 4Runners (I was an FJ40 guy!). I have an SR5 and don't know about all the bells and whistles on the "higher" grades, but my SR5 does what I want and need!

I think they are just out of fashion right now … I agree that the front end of the 5th Gen doesn’t lend itself well to the brush guard aesthetic.

Im not sure we need to lighten up that much. I don't go out of my way to be a jerk to people that owe me nothing, and by the way, from whom I’m expecting help from.

But some people might not understand the whole internet forum/discussion grouo thing. Could be an age thing, could be they play outside more than I do. Some people think if they post a question, all eyes are on them and a swat team government funded experts will be deployed to help them.

And then there is the other side where people think a question on the internet is specifically asking them, as an individual. Like when you read the Amazon product questions section. Invariably you’ll get somebody responding “I’m not sure, I don’t own the product”. It’s so stupid that it’s probably a joke the youts like to engage in these days. If it is a joke, it went over my head.

Anyway, the OP is acting like a toddler. Maybe a toddler with ingenuity, but he took that ball and went home with it too.

Does his "acting like a toddler" justify rude behavior? As I said, he asked a question, didn't get an answer and was miffed. Probably could be considered immature, but to call him a toddler? Maybe he's just a cranky old man like I am! . A simple "Most of us don't use them. Hang in there, somebody should come along with an answer" have been too hard? How did you extrapolate to a "swat team government funded experts" thing?

BTW: I have a Black Horse Bull Bar but have no real experience with needing it! I probably should have said o, but I didn't==MY MISTAKE! But I sure didn't start calling him names!

I’m generally very open to pissed off/cranky people, oddly enough. But the OP got insulted by the silence, and he decided to respond with broad insults. I found it hard to sympathize with him at all. That doesn't happen all that often with me.

But, i will admit, my response to your response probably proves I’m starting to join the the ranks of cranky old guys. I should not begrudge anyone willing to extend an olive branch to someone I don’t think deserves it. Lord knows we all eventually depend on someone extending one to us when we don’t deserve it.

By quoting/responding to your post specifically, I just realized that I basically slapped the olive branch you extended to him out of your hands. That was poor form on my part. It was your branch that you generously extended, not mine.

What I really should have done is post my opinion of the OP’s post as a separate comment and left it at that.
