Locating a ORP with KDSS

    Has anyone recently been able to locate a 2022 ORP with KDSS? I’ve searched through most of the new listings on cargurus and haven’t seen any of them list KDSS in details. I talked to a GM from a local dealer who’s the wife of a person I worked with and she said that Toyota hasn’t been manufacture as many due to the chip shortage.

    Those who have located them what prices were dealers charging for them?

    Check Pennsylvania and south. Or west coast. I also believe all ORP in Canada get it. I spent 8 months hunting for one in New England, and that’s what I learned. Good luck, I decided to go with out.

    Dang those babies are massively far away. I’m unfortunately in the Midwest and have had zero luck. I think I found 1 and they wanted like 54K for it.

    I’ve never driven one with KDSS my 2018 didn’t have it either. But I told myself I wanted it next time. I’m dead set on LR as the color but I feel that I’m combination with KDSS is like a unicorn.

    I searched around Texas for awhile until one of the dealers informed me that KDSS isn’t available period in our region. I don’t know if he was trying to cover his own hide and not look incompetent, but I was unable to find a single KDSS for sale on all the websites (dealer and third-party) in all of Texas. I ended up getting a great deal on a custom order from a dealer in Bismarck, ND that made it worth the one-way flight and road trip home.

    You might have to travel, but it’ll be a great trip to learn about your new 4Runner on.

    There aren’t any by me either. I’m curious for those who have it if it’s truly worth getting? It looks like it’ll cost me about 4-5k more than a non kdss version

    Colorado isn't far, depending where in the Midwest you are. Could be worth taking a day off.

    As far as KDSS being worth getting; why do you want it?

    I have it, and it's worth it for me. But, my reason was better articulation with a small lift.

    It becomes a limitation in some scenarios with extended or long travel.

    It's also another potential point of failure, so some avoid it for that specific reason.

    On the road, you get less body roll in curves. It does not help with brake nosedive.

    Like @Thatbassguy said, you will find on this forum about a 50-50 split among members that like it versus those that don't want it.

    I have it, totally worth it for me. I have Bilstein 6100 coilovers in the front with a mild lift. This makes my truck extremely stable on the road, eliminates nosedive under braking and very stable in corners.

    Again, it depends on what you want to do with your truck, and what kind of mods you intend to do for your needs, if any.

    Just to clarify a little bit. Per my experience KDSS has better articulation in front and less articulation rear compared to non KDSS. KDSS don't do anything for nose dive. I could wrong since I don't own, just driving on weekends sharing our 4runners.

    Correct. But, it has more overall articulation, which is its purpose.

    I want it mainly because my ‘18 OR felt less stable at higher speeds and everything I’ve read talks about how much better it makes the vehicle against body roll. The vehicle will be on the pavement majority of the time except once or twice a year trips out west. That dealership is about 12 hours from me.

    It definitely helps with body roll. But, a decent suspension upgrade will help a lot with the roley-poley stock suspension.

    I'd almost skip it and just upgrade the shocks in your situation. It will feel much more planted. KDSS does feel more stable in curves, but does nothing for nosedive.

    The dealership I posted I have purchased 3 Toyotas with them and they helped me on my 2nd 4runner search for non KDSS ORP. I wanted Non KDSS premium with heated seats but no moonroof. Sadly all premiums they get had moonroof but was able to get a non KDSS. That dealership is no bs dealership who try to steal money. I highly recommend and I would love to go there even it's far for me as well.

    I have an 18 ORP with KDSS. Previously had a 2000 SR5 (no KDSS). The KDSS on-road handling in curves is great in comparison. Totally worth it for me.

    I got the KDSS for highway driving. The thick swaybars are great when you hit curvy mountain roads. It does still nosedive but I got used to that. I was going to install a pair of assembled 6112s but decided to leave things alone. I'm happy with how it rides as is. Probably will list them in the classifieds one of these days.

    I have KDSS but have never driven a non-KDSS 4Runner to make the comparison. I love KDSS for the uniqueness and sheer ingenuity of it. It’s just a bit of really brilliant, well applied, simple technology.

    Unfortunately all the listed ones posted in here are already sold.

    The only one that isn’t reserved it seems within 1500 miles is in NewYork and they want more than a TRD Pro for it. :eek:

    If kdss just isn’t financially obtainable in the current market. Is there any type of suspension anyone can recommend that will have similar benefits?

    If you are looking to change suspension non kdss is superior offroad. Read through Accutune tech articles/ R4T suspension details. No trouble with track bars, skids, sliders, etc.. Non KDSS sway bar is not thick. This also help when you are leaning on one side offroad unlikely like a beefy sway bar you will not lean too much. Also no jaring feeling driving offroad, soft and comfy always. Suspension like ELKA2.5DC, Fox2.5DCs, King 2.5s, OME BP51 are few of top suspension options.

    That really depends on how much you want to change it, and the type of off-roading you want to do. A KDSS ORP will still outperform a PRO or non-KDSS off-road in slow, off camber situations.

    It's high speed stuff where it can get jarring. But, they make controllers to fix that. And, I don't really find the ride that bad at all.

    Aside from all of that, the OP is more concerned about stability at highway speeds.

    Atleast with my experience stock Pro has better flex than stock KDSS orp when we measured on pavement using jacks on frame.

    Anyways trying to talk less on this topic nowadays as it makes some angry. Why I just posted the dealership link and didn't say anything until op asked about non KDSS.

    I'm pretty sure the tinkerer video proved that the KDSS equipped 4Runners have more flex. The PRO has the same sway bars as the other trims, so it's not going to have any more flex than an off-road or SR5. I don't know why you seem to want to deny that. The engineers who designed it weren't idiots.

    Edit:. I don't mind you pointing out the disadvantages and potential failure of the accumulator. But, let's not pretend that it doesn't do what it was designed for.

    Same story I got with these guys which I will plan to go this time. After moving to a new job very hard to find time for these work. Will see after few months..:D

    Please don't refer to R4T as "experts." The video I watched from them showed that the guy was definitely not an expert. Just because they install a lot of lifts doesn't mean they understand what's going on.

    Most decent aftermarket shocks and coilovers will give you a more stable overall feel. Dobinsons are super popular around here. But, there are a ton of good options. It really depends on how much you want to spend, and your region (some shocks don't do well in areas where they salt the roads in winter).
