Installed a grill insert. How many of you have done this. It would’ve difficult for most… actually had to bend in the bottom and flatten the sides. Someone cut the grill to install the previous insert. Quite frankly I like the look of it pushed out rather then set back on the grill.

Replaced the power antenna (entire thing, not just the mast this time). Working like a charm. Love Toyotas.

Started it and let it warm up. With the new AC/heat system and injectors functioning flawlessly. Getting ready for the upcoming trout stocking event.

None. Bone Stock. EXCEPT: Brushguard, tow hitch, both welded to the frame. It's good to have friends and a fully equipped garage!
Finally finished putting on the factory running boards we got from 4RunnerHouse. They buy crashed, non running, 4Runners, and either part them out, or rebuild them. He specializes in early genn Runners. He also has a booming race Toyota business.
Anywho, he finally got a 99 with factory running boards in, and he pulled the running boards, and sent them to us. Friend helped us put them on. Not hard at all. The holes for the mounts were already there. Only thing we weren't certain of was whether you had to pull the "mud guards" off the front wheel wells to get the plastic adapters to fit right. The answer is Yes, you do. The rear are good right as is, just need to remove a trim bollt, and use it to bolt the adapter on. Why they put hard plastic pieces for the mud "guards" on, I will never know. In my mind "mud flaps" should FLAP.

I'll get some pics as soon as possible. Right now, the weather is cold, and rainy, and I just don't want to go out in it. Yeah, I'm lazy.

The results are interesting. Yes, they help my wife and I get in easier, no question. They also make some nifty twanging sounds on our gravel access roads. When a rock gets thrown up and hits them, they twang. Kinda neat. Another thing we noticed was some of the rushing air noises in high crosswinds at 65 or so. They also increase the trucks sensitivity to said crosswinds. Not severely, but it's noticeable over them NOT being there.
I'm not sure about mileage. We haven't filled up since we got them completely finished. We'll find out.

    That is all. Carry on...

    Wow!
You've had a few episodes with the wildlife, haven't you? I saw a phrase that describes those deer perfectly: They were trying to unalive themselves on your truck. Sorry that the doe succeeded.
I had a horse try to unalive himself on my motorcycle once. He succeeded, and I lost an eye to his efforts. But I survived! Only person I know ever killed a horse with his chest.

Anywho, I'll keep the "protection" features the running boards provide in mind. Would have installed them sooner if I'd known that particular feature of them!
    Thanks for the HU...

got rid of the P0301 code by replacing the plugs, coils and wires, and injectors. traded THAT code for P0171. MAJOR engine missing, still. i cleaned up the vacuum hose connections, but the plenum could be leaking i suppose. Tomorrow clean MAF and try try again.

You know mine had a little miss when I first got it back with new injectors. Then after a while it went away. So code PO171 “Adaptive fuel too lean” may be the injectors not primed?

i believed that they should have primed, i drove it enough to warm up the trans to temperature, and when i revved up it got smooth but miss comes right back. it''s enough to rock the engine on the mounts. no metallic clanking or banging noises. The PID code backs up the P code and indicates Bank 1 too lean. Going after the MAF cleaning tomorrow. i wonder if i could hook up a low side refrigeration gauge to the throttle body or somewhere on the intake plumbing?????

When I bought this 4Runner last spring, the antenna mast was cut off flush with the fitting it runs in. I recently replaced it. Since I didn't watch carefully which way the teeth on the plastic strip on the bottom were pointed when it came out, it was a guessing game as to which way to put it back in. Finally got it, though. Now it works like new. First power antenna vehicle I ever owned!

A small thing, but new to me :D

Put my Flag out for the weekend. Might start it, might not. Need to put my stock wheels back on. I’m gonna be doing shallow water entry on base and it has piles of sand.
