It's been a LONG time since I've heard that word! "Guidon". Wow, makes me think of boot camp...

A flag carried in the front of a group of troops, a platoon, a company, etc, identifying the unit. Unit number, a unit's symbol, etc.

In boot camp, it was our platoon's number (1058, in my case), and the company Guide carried the company's guidon (Company A, in my case). In the picture above, it was the unit's symbol.

A quick, easy way for troops that have gotten separated from their unit to locate the others of their unit during a battle.
Also, during a parade, the military version, it lets people looking for their loved ones, sons, and daughters, mothers or fathers, etc, find them more easily in the large numbers of troops passing by.

    Does that help?

Almost expect to hear a little "putt-putt-putt" sound coming faintly from the mother bird...

Yeah, they're fast. Aint it great??

Pictures shouldn't be a problem. It's a SHOW, after all. Anything inside a static display bird they don't want you to take pictures of, they will cover somehow. They won't do anything in the air in any bird, including the Angels, they don't want you to take pictures of.

When I was stationed at Yuma MCAS, I would ride my motorcycle over to El Centro during the winter, and watch the Blues practise to perfect their act for the upcoming summer show season, incorporate new pilots for the season, and so forth. When they transitioned over to the Hornet from the Phantoms, which at first was very unpopular, they even came over to Yuma to see about a new act the Hornet could perform, that no other plane, up till then, could.
I happened to be working out on the flight line that day, and paused to watch. He did a low, slow, dirty, fly-by, and went around for another pass. Normal so far, yes?
The second time, he kept getting slower and slower as he approached our end of the line. Naturally, the angle of attack kept increasing. They have a stall of about 70 knots. He got slower and slower, the nose got higher and higher. There came a point I was sure we were going to be witnesses to a crash. Nope. He finally got to where he had 0 knots forward speed, and the nose of the plane was almost straight up. The plane was riding only on the pure thrust of the engines!
We all stood there and gaped as the plane hovered around for a few minutes, then he accelerated straight up and flew away. Amazing. We'd heard the Hornet had a better than 1:1 thrust-to-weight ratio, but until you see a maneuver like that, it's hard to believe.

They weren't allowed to demonstrate this maneuver at air shows, BTW. It was deemed too dangerous by the "Powers that Be".

So anywho, take all the pictures you want. Perfectly acceptable. Enjoy the show! :)

So I bought this little guy to use as a walk around camera with some of my smaller EF L lenses. So far a few test shots of junk around the house have proven it to be surprisingly good.

The Cardinal flower just sprung up last year I guess it floated in as a seed. The Dragonfly is near a wierd plant too. They open up their leaves in the sun then close up at night.
