How long is it currently taking from Portland Oregon port to the Princeton Indiana rail yard? Mine left Portland a few days ago.

Gave up on the road premium with kdss and found a pro. Heard it is on the boat now so whatever that means.
No sliding cargo in the back is missing, don’t think easily added.

Don’t blame you, I’m in it to the bitter end for a particular ORP if they want my money. Wife doesn’t call me a stubborn mule for nothing. I told the dealer a couple weeks ago I’ll wait for 2023 if necessary to get the color and options I want/don’t want, salesperson said “Oh no, no, we will have it before then”.
Going on 4 months now, we shall see, I’m in no hurry to spend $50K.
The good news is they are very motivated/salivating because I dangled my wife’s low mileage CRV cream puff as a possible trade, but they aren’t getting it…..shhhh.
I’ve heard the sliding cargo platform rattles when empty but I have no first hand knowledge, it is on my list of “not wanted”.
    What color are you getting?

Stick with it, and consider widening your search. I contacted some 30 dealers before I found my (future) truck, almost 300 miles away.

I’m in N. Nevada and there aren’t a whole bunch of dealers around here and l am in no hurry. I want it, don’t need it.

I bought mine in Tennessee and I live in Colorado due to locals wanting $15k markup. Paid MSRP, but flight for wife and I to Nashville (dealership picked us up at hotel next morning), gas, food, hotels cost about $1000. Great road trip back - ~1200 miles, plus rain for for day and a half, so great for me. Ordered end of October and picked up mid-December, so timelines seem about same then as now unless you stumble into your exact car. I was looking for Lime Rush and son-in-law saw dealer said something on a forum, so now enjoying my 4Runner (first one).

Finally picked up my Silver TRD ORP w/KDSS & premium package yesterday!

It was pouring rain all day yesterday, luckily I was able to get a few pictures under the overhang at the dealership before I drove it in the rain for a test drive. I cant wait to drive it more, I haven't been able to put more than 28 miles on it (Mothers day today, had to take care of kids and wife).

I paid MSRP. I was very specific while I was waiting over few months that when it finally came in I didn't want any upgrades, no ceramic, no laser etching on glass (which they still did by accident anyway so no charge), no windshield coating, no key fob insurance or whatever. I got a decent interest rate (given the state of the world) through my local credit union and paying the same per month (just longer term) as my 2018 Limited w/3rd row (I traded in).

Bluetooth in the 2022 is 100x better than the 2018 limited I had. And so far the 2022 ORP feels better all around in every way compared to the 2018 (ride, cornering, etc.) so far (but only 28 miles so need more miles to confirm that). On my test drive I took it on a highway that was pretty beaten up and grinded down to be repaved, it was absorbing the bumps no issue at all.

The only thing I have changed so far is I added a screen protector over the stereo touchscreen. I am trying to enjoy the car in stock form for as long as possible until I start making upgrades.

Your question is not to me - but as an FYI, I bought my wife a Lime Rush TRD Pro 4Runner at MSRP in Feb (called on 1 Feb and took delivery on 28 Feb). I bought hers at Capital Toyota in Chattanooga TN (ask for Brandon - (706) 847-8713).

I dunno if this has been posted yet but this is a cool way to track status/ETA of Toyota's on order.

    https://www.reddit.com/r/rav4club/comments/thpbes/tutorial_how_to_check_eta_and_status_of_an/

Mine is "allocated" with no ETA as of yet. It does show it as "presold" and the dealer is the dealer I'm working with.

Sounds like I'm at least 6 weeks away from taking delivery, which is actually fine by me - gives me more time to build up that down payment (wife is a realtor and we could really use another closing or two :)

Unfortunately, this method is really hit or miss. I tracked mine for a good 2 weeks with no status change. Then my car just showed up without that ever updating a single time.

But might work better for others.

Team Toyota loves to push their financing & window etch. I should have just gotten my own financing from Citizens bank across the street but I was lazy and bother checking in. They had great rates when I got my gt350. Good job not paying for that window etch.

Nice. I wavered between silver and MGM, wife liked the darker color better, and I didn't really mind it. Silver is the best color out there for hiding dirt and scratches, and the silver valances on the OR don't look bad, either. Congratulations on the new ride.

Hang in there. I placed deposits with two dealers in early December. Finally heard from one of them late last week that they had an allocation. Surprised to learn today that it was already built and on the ship before they'd notified me about the allocation. Never thought it'd be 5+ months when I placed my deposits in December knowing I was first in line for my trim/color at that time. I agree with others that suggest that multiple factors will converge and there will be more supply than demand later this year, with any luck prices will return to reasonable levels and you'll be rewarded for your patience!

Since Jan 22 here….it is what it is. We might end up with a 2023, which might not be all that bad, who knows with this supply environment.

a gimmick to create artificial scarcity and push demands/prices for the dealers

Some dealers in MD, NJ, VA have several 4Rs on the lot with marked up prices... gathering dust.

    - Odd colors that nobody wants

One dealer even added 4K - Vehicle prep fees ??

I started going the route of
I went the initial route of customizing my 4R from factory. Futile attempts. Months of waiting.
Most important packages that cannot be added by dealers are Tech/Nav/Roofs.

Then i discovered that some dealers with good standing (credit worthy) with Toyota have a link on their sites Called 'SMARTPATH'.

Am not into free advertising for dealership. Just need to know where to look at the right time.

I visited a another dealership on "Presidents Day' federal holiday. They had five T4R coming that week.

Just picked one with Tech Package and added the accessories. They even tried to sell my truck to someone else on arrival (paid deposit)
    Long wait over. Deal done.

my dealer told me it would be around a year for a Pro. I decided to go with a lesser model with some add-ons but he still didnt give me an ETA on when it would be here.

My advice to all - keep looking and calling. Just going through the threads you see where people have found what they're looking for (or close enough). You may or may not have to travel a bit (mine took from end of October to mid-December) to get a Green Rush (model I wanted), had to fly to Tennessee and drive it back to Colorado - got it at MSRP. There is another thread on this board that lists dealers who do MSRP by state to help you connect up. Local folks wanted a $15k market adjustment, didn't have a Rush, none expected, plus tried to talk me out of it by saying it probably wouldn't have a very good resale value.
Figure flight, hotel, food, gas only added up to around $1k. Good deal plus great road trip through rainy and dry. AND I love my 4Runner:yes:

I put down $500. Initially was 4 month wait time, but luckily they got an allocation. 3 weeks out right now.

EDIT: The mark up was about 2k.

I kept seeing '22 trd pros range between 54k to 57k msrp. What's the 3k difference is about????

x2 this. I've emailed probably 60+ dealers and have deposits with 2 of them. One of which I spoke with today is getting the premium I want in less than 4 weeks as it's in the states already and wasn't reserved.

IMO I'd drive/fly a good ways before I'd buy from a local dealer with up charges/mark up's over msrp. Also, doc fee's are pure profit so anything over $399 and I'm out. Keep searching and you'll find the one you want or as stated, very close to it.

My understanding of the process is that the dealers get an allocation of vehicles to sell on their lots. It's possible to claim these as soon as the dealer gets their allocation (about every 2 weeks IIRC), in which case you're only having to wait the transit time from Japan for these to show up. Of course you won't have customization options with this approach, but it's the fastest way I've found to get one, especially if you're willing to compromise on something like color.

However, all the dealers will try to steer you into the custom-order route, which they quote something like a 4 month wait for. One reason may be that custom orders don't count against their allocation quotas for on-lot sales (just a speculation on my part). But the other reason is that each dealer is in it for themselves, and have no incentive to tell you that you could get a 4runner faster by checking other dealer's pre-sold inventory.

And you can forget all the web searches for vehicle availability. I found out that every listed vehicle on dealer's websites only tells you about the vehicles on their lot, which is completely useless because these are already reserved by other buyers. It's technically on their lot but was never something you had a chance of buying (unless you get lucky and a buyer pulls out). Their pre-sold inventory is what you really want to search, except that none of the dealer websites (nor Toyota's vehicle dealer search page) will allow you to see pre-sold inventory. Only the dealers themselves can see pre-sold inventory.

Anyway, after some trial and error the process I followed was:

    1. Call each dealer in a X mile radius (google maps is a quick way to get toyota dealer locations & phone numbers)
    2. Connect to the sales department and ask them if they have the trim/options you're looking for in their pre-sold inventory.
    3. Check that they're selling at or under MSRP if you want to be overcharged
    4. If they got what you want, then check when the expected arrival date for the vehicle. It shouldn't be more than a couple weeks or so to transit from Japan.
    5. If everything looks good, put a deposit down. And to re-iterate, this is a deposit on pre-sold inventory, not placing an order to the factory for a new one. Some sales people are sneaky about this, see above.
5a. One stumbling block you may run into on this step. Some dealers only want to sell to "local" customers, but what exactly "local" means is usually up for debate. Regardless it doesn't take much to get past this hurdle, you can say that you just moved there but haven't updated the address yet on your license (if it's another dealer in the same state), or that you're still jumping through DMV hoops to get your license in a different state (if the dealer's in a different state).
    6. Otherwise, ask them what day they will receive their next allocation. Call them back first thing in the morning on their next allocation date to get first pickings.
6a. You can also try telling them to call you back if they get an allocation for what you're looking for, but in my experience this never happened. You just need to call them and to be first; there is no formal wait-list for pre-sold inventory.
    7. If they don't current have an allocation for what you asked for, they will (almost always) try to get you to place a deposit for a new order to the factory (because they know they can easily sell cars that arrive on the lot to anyone, and would rather have a guaranteed sale to you 4 months in the future before you go to another dealer.) Politely decline.
    8. Repeat this for each dealer in your search radius.

One last social engineer hack I stumbled upon which can save you a lot of time. I (genuinely) apologized to one busy dealer over the phone, basically expressing disappointment that I had to take up their time with these calls because there was no way for me to search their pre-sold inventory directly. It was revealed to me that yes, this information was private to dealers. But importantly, they have the ability to see the pre-sold inventory for all Toyota dealerships, even though they are technically can't give you the names of other dealerships that have what you're looking for. So you can't ask about this directly, but apparently they have ways around this in a technical sense. One awesome sales rep I spoke to clued me in that there was a particularly lovely toyota dealership at our state's capitol which I might want to visit on my next family vacation :D
