    Hello all:

I am starting the process of building and ordering a vehicle through my local dealer. I am up for any suggestions on what I should/shouldn't add to the vehicle. Must haves and must avoid items/models.

It will be my daily driver, used for road trips and taken off road to go hunting/exploring.

The dealer says that a SR5 Premium is a 3 month lead time: if I go TRD it is out 7 months or longer.

My requirements are heated seats and I wanted auto start but I found out I have to add an aftermarket if I don't want to pay $8.00 a month for the Toyota App subscription. I'm really liking the moonroof but I know it is a limited model option.

I'd like it to be blacked out so it looks like I have to order TRD wheels separately and have them put on.

    Thanks,

    Skip

Welcome, you can't order a vehicle, they get allocated which means if you want a red sr5 for example you have to wait until they get sent a red sr5 and it may or may not have all the options you want and if it comes with extra crap you don't want you either have to pay or wait until their next allocation

^^ This is correct. Your name is placed on a priority list and as your name rises to the top and if the dealer gets allocated one that matches your desires, you can choose to purchase it or not. I picked up my ORP last week and love it. Expect the port to add options that you did not originally want.

He must have an allocation. He told me on Saturday he will have it in 3 months. This will be the 4th vehicle from this dealer so I trust his word.

Mine came in 2 so sounds right, everything said above is true. Mine came exactly as I wanted it except they had to add wheel locks and door guards which I didn’t want and had to pay for. If you don’t want your vehicle all fucked up on delivery I would tell them to not detail it. I think they used a push broom to wash mine. Came all scratched to shit.

This, they run it through a brushed car wash and immediately put swirl marks all over the brand new paint.

Once you have the trim level and color you want allocated and incoming, the dealer can add and/or delete port installed options. This way you can get what you want without paying 70.00 for charging cables or whatever. If you want a sunroof, I believe it has to be allocated that way from Toyota, as that is obviously a factory installed option.

I just did this and my vehicle was scheduled to leave port today.

It sounds like the premium models is what your looking for.

the sr5 premium and trd off road premium models come with heated front seats , moonroof , blind spot monitoring and some other goodies you may or may not want.

I believe the blackout package is called the xp predator package but you can always negotiate with your dealer once it arrives and have them throw the wheels on for you or do yourself afterwards.

I'm in Canada so things might be different here, but I'm curious what types of options you are able to add to your 4runner? We just ordered a 2022 Limited and the dealer suggested there really wasn't anything I could add or delete with the exception of dealer sold accessories such as roof top bars for a Thule box and things like that. Were you able to start deleting or adding options for your order?

Anything that was on the website as options I could add. Does this dealer have allocation for your vehicle? If so they could give you a vspec. Vehicles are given a temporary VIN until they are built.

Port installed options can be changed anytime up until it arrives in port.

I removed things like door edge guards and charging port/cables, but added black wheel package and emblem overlays. The predator package someone else mentioned is a regional port option. SE region I believe, that was not available to me.

My salesman was able to go in and make changes and send me a new vspec. Using the VIN and the Toyota owners app, I was able to see the port installed options change over the weekend to everything I requested, confirming it is done at the port, and soon to be on its way to me!

Blackout was not available in the NE region so I added the badge black out and the dealer sold me the TRD black wheels at his cost. I also am ordering the trail running boards at his cost and I will install myself. He has always sold me dealer available accessories at his cost. I ended up ordering the SR5 Premium with moonroof in black. He says it will be here in three months or less. I'm looking forward to researching mods to make it mine.

Thanks for all of the input!

Welcome to the forum Skip. I got the SR5P as well and it’s everything I need. I wish I could tell you the first mod to save for but there are several. Pedal Commander. RAV 4 mirrors with the blind spot mirrors in them. Husky cargo liner. Interior LED lighting. LED backup lights. Glove box organizers. The list goes on. You’ll find lots of ideas here so start saving your money.

Beachguy: Is there a list of mods on here somewhere or do I need to use the search function to find them? I haven't had time to dig too deeply into the forum yet.

Ordered a '22 Pro early Jan, arrived early April. As previously mentioned by others it came with some stuff I did not want. They added the USB charge thing and cargo cover. I am in Tennessee.

From my understanding, you cannot order your car exactly how you want it. Especially with the allocation shortages and the issues with getting parts, the cars come built from the factory, allocated to a dealer, and you take it "as is" for the most part. Hopefully your dealer isn't on the List of Shame.

In the last 5-6 months of being on the search, "ordering", and putting down deposits - 2 dealers in my area added $4,000-$6,000 of added accessories at the time of signing and told me to take or leave it. I left it.

However, the car did sell to an unfortunate/fortunate buyer depending on how you look at it.

A dealer we found let us "order" an Off Road this weekend with a $500 deposit. I've had many new vehicles but never ordered one so idk if they're just allocating one or actually building it. About an hour after we paid the deposit they sent us our "build number" from Toyota.

The dealer just gets an allocation. You're probably lucky enough that the selections you wanted and color was common enough that the dealer had an allocation already.

There are combinations like lunar rock with kdss that’s hard as heck to get.

I've saw 2 Lunar Rock KDSS OR's and 1 silver KDSS OR in the past week(due within 30 days). Turned down two of them as we don't want KDSS and 1 Lunar was sold.

If they're just allocating what does the "build number" mean, or is it just a lie?

A build number probably means you're just in the system. When they actually have a real physical car for you, then you get the build sheet with vin number

That's what I thought as a sun/moonroof was my one gotta have and I needed to go with an SR5 Premium for that to happen. Until one of the dealers I contacted early on called recently to say they had a blue SR5 headed their way onto which they could add a moonroof. For me and with few exceptions, anything buried interior to a vehicle either gets factory installed in Tahara or it doesn't get installed -- at least not in a new vehicle. The last thing I want is some rookie at the dealership pulling interior panels and leaving me with rattles, broken push rivits, and/or a resulting monkey job. The thought of a dealer taking a can opener to the vehicle to install a moonroof makes me cringe. IIRC the Gen3/4 had a gutter drainage system for the sunroof, the hose for which needs the ceiling and interior driver side panels to be pulled for an after the fact installation.
