TRD Pro, should I just let the shop do the oil change?

Exactly. Does Michigan law consider having your vehicle stolen "handing over the keys", and hold the owner liable when the fleeing thief kills someone in the pursuit?

Here, if anyone wants to read some ridiculous bullshit:

    https://nypost.com/2022/05/08/michi...chanic-jeffrey-hawkins-during-oil-change/amp/

"Attorney David Femminineo, who is representing Hawkins’ estate, told FOX 2 that Thompson did not know how to drive the vehicle’s manual transmission and did not have a license. The attorney also said the dealership cannot be sued because of a legal standard preventing an employee from suing their boss for negligence, which, in this case, would be the hiring of someone who should not have been driving."

Seriously?? Who the fuck thinks this makes any sense??

Sometimes I just don't understand how so much stupidity can exist. It's all over!

Any lawyers out there in the forum?
Do any other states have this kind of crazy liability law?

Ugh, I broke my own rule and read the article too. Hulk mad.

This is precisely why I really don’t follow the news anymore, and why I change my own oil. Lol

This law causing all the trouble in this case (not being able to sue a negligent boss) smells like it has special interest politics written all over it. Usually the laws with the most perverse unintended consequences do.

Although, I will say that this also looks like a case of lazy/dumb lawyering. You’d think a smart/creative lawyer would dig a bit more to find a way to sue those actually responsible. Some judge at some point in the process could end up throwing the whole case out because winning the case would literally create another victim.

I am not a lawyer or play one on TV.

In this country, all you have to be is 16 to pump gas into a vehicle.

So you don't need a license to handle the combustible dangerous fluid used to make it move.

That's still not as dumb as hiring an unlicensed person to perform a job that requires operating vehicles. It's gross negligence on the part of the shop.
