Hello everyone! Recently bought 2022 Limited, white with redwood interior. Really like it a lot. Looking forward to reading more about it in the forum here. Speaking of which, I had the Autoease liftgate installed and now like once a week, it will open slightly and then just close. Hoping to find an answer or some help in here. Thanks!

Trail4runner.com has a lot of information on those I was looking at installing one for a friend before he decided to upgrade to a Land Cruiser instead. for better help on this you need to disclose better details on what function it does it in like when you use the Key FOB? or the rear switch? front switch? how far does it actually open?

It does it on any function - the key fob, the rear switch and the front switch - when it happens. It only opens like an inch and then it closes itself back up. I don’t get it. I do have a weathertech mat in the back, but I wouldn’t think that would keep it from opening, closing maybe, but not opening. It’s strange.

I personally do not have much time with working on them except I have help install 1 system so far and the part that concerned me the most is the wiring going into the rear gate if it gets pulled to tight it could short out if it did not get installed inside Electrical loom, they started running the wires without electrical loom and we pulled it all back placing it in the loom.
I would start by looking at where the wires cross over from the body into the door and make sure that is in good shape. next go to Autoease web site support and describe the issue there. seems like it is going into the close mode that takes place after it has been open and shuts, that is where it comes down to full close position then briefly opens back up an inch before closing and latching shut.

I have tried contacting Autoease thru the contact page on their website, thru whatsapp and responded to a previous email thread with them when purchasing unit. Still no response. My theory is that maybe the liftgate is too heavy and i may need to rip it out. $1200 down the tubes, plus the cost of reverting back, whatever that may be. Pisses me off.

is the lift gate OEM setup or do you have add on like ladder with Jerry cans and anything else? if normal set up I would not say that the lift gate is too heavy how old is the system? still under warranty? possible one of the lift cylinder going bad or bad connection I would not rip the thing out just yet.

It’s an OEM setup. Should be under warranty, but had a third party install it. At any rate, it’s disappointing.

Welcome and greetings from Minnesota. Should still be covered under warranty.

Well here is the latest… the manufacturer recommended two things, a door popper spring to install onto the striker and a firmware update. The door popper helped it open, but prevented it from closing. So that didn’t work. Then when I did the firmware update, I think the control box file system corrupted because now the liftgate does not open and the window does not roll down. My conclusion, it’s a piece of shit and now I need to have Toyota put it back to factory OEM. Not sure how much that will cost, but it is a huge lesson learned. Do not buy the autoease power liftgate system. It will just cost you thousands and many headaches. My other question, why can’t Toyota just put one in their Limited addition at least? Sheesh!

Again thanks for the welcomes and suggestions. Sorry I didn’t post this in the proper place if I was supposed to.
