I got incredibly lucky. Got a Can-Am side by side in February and need a vehicle that can tow it. My Subaru Outback is not going to work.

Last Friday went to dealer thinking I wanted a Highlander but checking out a 4Runner as well. Test drove both and was surprised - liked the 4Runner better. Spent the weekend researching and discovered how popular, reliable, and durable 4Runners are. So Monday morning I called the “salesman” (self important order taker would be a better title for this young man) and left a message. No return call. Tried again later in the afternoon. Tuesday morning I called a salesman I had talked to months ago but was on vacation the week before. He completed the order for a black Limited due in late May/early June. Then he called back a couple hours later. “How would you like to get an identical 4Runner tomorrow?” Apparently someone else’s financing fell apart at the last minute and I was in the right place at the right time

After thinking a bit I said “Sure!” and brought my new 4Runner home yesterday (Wednesday).

I’ll add a pic when it stops raining and the sun comes out…

Welcome and congrats! Love the Limited! Pls post pics and keep us updated!

And PS — if you got stuck with them, ditch those horrendous Bridgestone Duelers before the weather turns cold again.

Tires are Yokahama Geolandar G96B. Since we’re in mud season now (don’t really get spring in Maine), I hadn’t focused on the tires. These are not going to cut it November-March. Might need real winter tires.

A sincere thanks - don’t want to be confronted with this after the first real snow storm …

Lucky you got the Geolanders instead. Still, for Maine I’d definitely switch to a winter tire or at least a 3Peak. If not cost prohibitive, you could put the better tires on new rims (eg one of the 17” OEM rims that come on the other 4Runner models) then keep your current set for mild weather or some other use. That’s what I’ve done with my Limited.

That’s probably the way to go, but why 17” rims for winter?

Almost 2 decades ago I got wider summer tires for my 2001 BMW Z3 and put them on nice, light weight wheels. Then I got actual snow tires in the OEM size for the old rims. (The summer tires got really slick and squirrely below 40 degrees, but they’re awesome May-September.) When I learned how to drive, almost all cars were rear wheel drive and snow tires were just a normal part of life.

There are a lot more tire choices in that size. Very few for winter in the OEM 20” size. Even fewer that are All Terrain. Also, the 20” rims aren’t really accomplishing anything other than looks. They weigh a ton. And, while a relatively minor point, they reduce the amount of sidewall for absorbing impacts.

Isn’t just the limited 20s, while the rest are 17s? Oh, maybe the sport is 20 as well.

Yeah. I think that's right. For many years every model except the Limited came with 17s. Then Toyota added the so called "Sport," which is a base model SR5 but with the Limited's dumb 20" wheels, the Limited's XREAS (I'm a big fan of that system) and the fake hood scoop from the Off Road models.

Yeah, the scoop is fake but chicks still dig it. At least that’s what I told myself about my Tacoma Sport scoop ;)

the wife doesn't mind the fake scoop, and it adds a 10i HP, right? That's what I read on the net, so it must be true.

I hate fakery. It's a pet peeve of mine. The fake engine sound piped through the speakers in my BMW M235i made me crazy, almost ruining what was a spectacular car in many ways. To disconnect it I had to disconnect the entire sound system including phone connection. That car also had a real exhaust-overrun burble, which would have been cool but it was so programmed that it happened exactly the same way, always under exact circumstances, and sounding exactly the same no matter what. So ultimately that was fake too.

Then there was the lack of steering feel. But I digress. Will eat my resentments now and be quiet.
