It's time to create a thread here although I've been registered since Jan 31st after I ordered my 4Runner. I ordered a Limited trim on nautical blue and redwood leather. I got notification after about three weeks after that there one was allocated to my dealer. Five weeks after the notification, the vehicle landed with the dealer. And finally after 2 months and 20 days, the car is in my driveway. There is nothing that the shiny chrome trims looks better on, than a blue body, I love the combination. The first thing I did was to take it to an undercoater and rust proof it with WaxOyl. It cost me a pretty penny but I think it will be worth it. I had budget for either ceramic coating or rustproofing and I choose the later.

I have asked a few question in this forum and I've seen a lot of positive engagements. I appreciate all the forum members who provided productive replies, it was a lot of help, thank you. This has been a very positive and helpful community to engage with. And I hope it continues to stay that way. Here's the first picture of my 4Runner. I can't believe I get to say "my 4Runner".

Welcome from Oklahoma!! Please post up pictures of that Redwood leather interior. That's a cool combination with the Nautical Blue.

Yea I was in the same situation this year. My 2006 suffers severe frame rot and wouldn't pass inspection. There's a class action suit on that defect, but I digress.. Anyway I needed a new vehicle and all I've ever purchased (with one regrettable exception) are 4runners and Toyota trucks. However with the current market situation they are both scarce and expensive. I've encountered dealers who shamelessly stated I'd be paying $4k over MSRP as a "market adjustment". Later.

Anyway back to Nautical Blue. With two other silver 4runners in my driveway the last thing I could deal with was another. Not that I think it unattractive but I'm beyond weary of that color choice in my case and blue had ALWAYS been my first choice of color but I never actually liked the shade of blue offered on a 4runner. What I really want is the Speedway Blue which had been available on Tacomas about the time I purchased my 2006, but no dice. So this time I placed a deposit on the Nautical Blue 4runner sight unseen while it was floating here on a boat. First impression was a shock as it was darker than I ever imagined -- really appeared black under those overcast conditions. Looks better in sunlight as I can see some blue but still getting used to it. I believe your added chrome trim helps optically bring out the blue better that the lack of it on my vehicle.

Agree. I'm going to power wash my vehicle, dry it out and undercoat the frame with solvent cut roofing tar as well. Really don't have body rust issues with the 2006 after 16 years in snow country but at only 130K miles I'd expect the frame to still be competent.

As a fellow Nauti Blue owner, it may as well be black. Shows any hint of dirt or dust and the micro scratches will stand out in the sun.

But it sure is purty when it's clean. Scratches and all.

I also "ordered" a nautical blue/redwood combo back in 2020.. love it! One of the best features of the limited is the option for the redwood interior, and I agree is it rare.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone. What's the consensus on ceramic coating here? Is paint protection film better?

I suggest better tires to start. For me that included switching to 17” with TRD rims. 20” rims don’t really accomplish anything but cosmetics. Crazy heavy too. OP: If you got the Bridgestone Dueler H/T I have to warn you that they are dangerous in the snow. They are overall one of the most hated tires out there. Check out the user reviews on Tire Rack. Will make your stomach turn. In my experience they are ok in the dry, if fast wearing. But there’s nothing else to recommend them. Yikes.

Not sure what is better, but the ceramic stuff is pretty nice. Your truck is only new once. Now is the time to invest the $ and effort and clay bar that thing until it is mirror smooth then compound it, then polish it, THEN apply whatever you choose. That perfectly smooth finish on the clear coat before applying wax/hybrid/ceramic/teflon/graphene et al will make more difference in the appearance and shine than whatever you put on it. It is a lot of work. It is totally worth it.
