Hello. We have a vacation planned in May near the Talladega National Forest. We’d love to take our 4 daughters on some beginner off road trails/ and go hiking off the beaten path.

What kind of lift/ spacers can I get with the xraes suspension? I bought 17” TRD Pro wheels. Which tire size can I get? 285/70/17 or play it safe with 265/70/17.

    Thanks for the advice!

(I purchased the limited as opposed to the tdr pro because I needed the 3rd row seating for my family, and it’s super comfortable for everyone).

#1) I removed XREAS and got a lift (2.5front & 1.5 rear) with 2.5in toytec springs front and 1.5in spacer rear with Bilstien5100 and I miss the onroad comfort I had with XREAS a little. (I like soft suspension don't want sport car feel).
Why did I remove XREAS? As per my 4x4 shop Toytec XREAS shocks are shorter for a lift.

#2) 17” TRD Pro wheels are not approved to run 285/70R17 but I see some run 285s on TRD Pro wheels. So you can try at your own. If you want to be in spec you can go up to 275/70R17 with TRD PRo wheels.

#2a) If you are ok with TRD Offroad wheels look those wheels are with in spec (meet minimum width requirement) to run 285/70R17 tires.

Here's how TRD Offroad wheels look with 285/70R17 tires -

The advantage of the OEM OR wheels is the +15 offset which would minimize any rubbing with tires like the Wildpeaks. Some don't care for the looks though. Most aftermarket wheels seem to be 0 offset or less so as you push the tires outward there is more chance for rubbing when the tires are turned.

I believe you’ll find that a 4Runner Limited is quite capable in getting you through some beginner off-road trails, especially after getting some All-Terrains or Hybrid tires.

Kmeeg thank you for sharing your detailed youtube video. It is very helpful! I do want to keep the xraes suspension intact. I read somewhere that I can add 2” strut spacers to the front without affecting the suspension. Can anyone confirm this?

Your 4Runner in stock form will have no problem with any of the legal trails in the Talladega forest unless it is muddy. Download the avenza app it has the MVUM map on it. 600-1 and 600-2 also known as the Alabama Rubicon have some great views.

I finally got the 3/1 leveling kit installed and had my vehicle aligned. The caster is maxed out at 1.7. I need to get it closer to 4. I read that replacing the upper control arms will correct this. Will the spc 25480 uca’s fit my vehicle? Most sites say that it will not fit, but they don’t take into consideration the bigger wheels and lift. Thanks!

I just confirmed with spc customer service that the 25480 uca’s are the correct part in case anyone else is wondering.

Those tires looks great on the truck, even w/o the lift. How has the road noise changed with the new rubber?

Check out the JBA upper control arms. That's what I used and I'm very happy with them.

Like @Dinosaur Overland said, 600-1 you should have no problems with it. A couple guys over on the Alabama thread on Tacomaworld posted just recently that 600-2 had some good washouts for the last couple of storms that come through here. I haven’t been out on 600-1/600-2 in a while, but we had no problems on either trail. Took my basically stock 2008 4Runner and tacoma all over Talladega forest. If you have any questions about the trails, Jump on tacomaworld. There’s a few the get out pretty regularly.

Did the lift affect your cruise control or sensors at all? Thinking of doing this same lift on my 22. Thanks and it looks great!

Looks great! The spacer lift may cause the XREAS shocks to start leaking earlier than later. Mine started to leak at 40k miles. I ripped the whole system out and went with aftermarket setup.

Aftermarket UCA’s will definitely solve your alignment and get you good caster numbers. I have both Dobinsons and OME UCA’s without complaints. They are both maintenance free unlike others. Someone suggested JBA but I would be careful with these as you need to run specific wheel offsets with these or your tires will run against them due to the ball joint they use which results in a large amount of material outboard of the centerline of ball joint. See their website for details.

I have the Icons on the 4runner and JBA's on the Tacoma. If I did it over again, I'd just go with the JBA's on both and save some cash to boot

Hi. The lift did not affect the cruise control or any sensors. Everything still works fine.

34EF8D10-0E32-4875-933D-E239A8B34432.jpg We drove 600-1 today. The lookout at the top was pretty amazing! We are going to do 600-2 in the next couple of days. I’ve heard that it’s more difficult.

600-2 does have a couple tougher spots, but not bad. My son and I did it a couples years back in my tacoma and 4Runner.

We are going to do 600-2 today. Yesterday we took a day trip to Little River Canyon outside of Fort Payne to do a river crossing down county road 8/5/4. My kids got to play in the river, then we went and saw the water fall.
