Just picked up my 2022 4runner. Love it so far! One thing that has stunk was loosing the bed of my Tundra. I've been eyeing up racks to solve that problem, and have a couple full lengths in mind. That being said, after installing these I can see how keeping the top clean, preventing it from flailing straps, dropped fasteners for said rack might come in handy. I was planning on getting the windows tinted and getting PPF put on the front edge of the hood/bumper. I also enquired about installing PPF on the roof. They quoted me 600$, which was a bit of a shock? They said they want to remove the antenna and the rain groove plugs to do it right. Which makes the 600$ seem a little more legit.

I'm just looking for some feedback from people with roof racks. If they wish they had done something like this? Or think it's overkill. Would rather do it now versus in 4 years after the roof is beat up...

If you’re going to own the vehicle for an extended period of time and you will be mounting items on the roof rack then I think it will be a good investment. I have some paint scrapes and scuffs on my roof from using the roof rack and the PPF would have prevented it.

I always have leaves and small branches stuck between my roof rack and roof. I try to keep it covered with my car cover as much as possible since my 4R is a second vehicle but inevitably it happens.

I can’t speak if your quote is a good price or not but for a long term protection, and if it’s in your budget, then I’d do the same thing in hind sight.

I agree with the long term ownership plan. If you are going to use the roof rack a bunch then it seems inevitable to expect dings and scratches. Does the PPF have a warranty or projected use life?

I only have it on the front where the wind deflector on my sherpa rack sits

    $600 just for the roof?

I had my front end PPF and hood vinyl wrapped after couple days of ownership. 6 months later, only chip I got is on the pillar. Last truck I had new, 6 months into ownership it had more rock chips than I can count. Personally, its a must have if your not planning to swap with steel bumper.

Did you guys get Xpel? I was quoted $1,300 to do Xpel on the front end bumper/grill/hood and mirrors.

I have not had mine out all winter and only 500 miles; planned to do it end of this month.

Xpel is what I got. $1100 is what I payed for my front end installed except the hood. Had it vinyl wrapped black minus the scoop.

Thanks everyone for the input. @ATX14, @Ironguy!

I am getting XPEL. Plan is to keep this truck for a while. I like keeping my stuff in relatively nice shape so the PPF makes sense.

    My quote was:
    700$ Bumper
    200$ Front of hood
    150$ for mirrors
    600$ for the roof

Also getting my windows tinted 20% in the front and 50% in the rear. So it should be about the same all the way around.
    430$

If this is pre-cut film, I'd consider that quote to be high up there. The bumper I can understand but $200 for a portion of the hood? Thats probably the same coverage as a bug deflector. My whole hood except the scoop cost me $300 to wrap and $400 for the roof.

After you’ve had it a while a few scratches on the roof won’t bother you as much. Be as careful as you can and touch up any scratches so they don’t rust. Nobody sees your roof anyway.

Xpel has a pre cut fit for all panels of an Off Road which should be mostly the same for ORP except for mirrors I am told.
