Need help - 2nd Gen Morimoto Fuses on 2022 ORP

    That was my problem too. So I disconnected the fuse tap and it works like how it should.

    Yup. I was tired of the lights turning on randomly right after arming and was concerned that it was gonna kill the battery. I was ok with leaving it on parking light mode were the DRL strip comes on but only dimmer so I decided to remove it, finding out that it now operates like how its supposed to. But im starting to think that this may only concern the 21 and 22 models that used the TRD Pro/Limited harness.

    I called Morimoto today to and was told that the 2022 SR5 Premium uses the same harness as the 2021 model (LG531H-2). Is LF531H for the Limited/Pro the adapter that worked on your Off Road Premium?

    I am still waiting for mine to be delivered. Apparently they are on back order. But hopefully they will Come with all of the right harnesses and instructions for my 2021 TRD Pro..

    After one failed (or stolen) shipping attempt I got my Pro adapter for the Morimoto headlights. Installed it on my TRD ORP and everything works! Just like what was mentioned above, I didn’t need the wire going back to the fuse box. Everything seems to just work. Morimoto support was great even though I bought the headlights from 4Runner Lifestyle.

    How do you guys like the Morimotos? My wife has the halogen projectors on her 2020 and we have been running the Vleds Micro headlights in them. The problem is that you lose alot of light output due to the projectors being sideways mounted. We have some XB's on order....just waiting for shipment.

    I just installed some Mirimoto XB 2nd Gen headlights on my 2022 SR5 Prem that I purchased from Headlight Revolution. I had the recommended harness (non Limited/TRDPro version) and I had many of the same problems others have been having. No highbeams, passenger side DRL was the only one working, etc. After a few calls/emails with HR and Mirimoto to do some troubleshooting, they sent me the Limited/TRD Prod harness (LF531H version) and it solved ALL of the issues. It is a bit frustrating to buy $2k worth of lights to have to spend so much time troubleshooting, but they are pretty cool. I hope this helps others.

    This is because all of the headlights switched to the bi-LED setup for 2022, not just the Pro/Limited. I'm surprised Morimoto hasn't updated their documentation yet.

    I have a 2021 TRD-OFFRoad and I am having the same issue and I’m wondering if I bought the wrong harness. I have the more complicated harness with the little box in the middle but I was starring really close and the high beams won’t work and in the DRL position only the drivers side comes on. So, did the new harness you got have multiple connectors on it or did it just have those two from the picture you sent earlier.

    Recommended a friend with a 22 SR5-P to buy the harness for limited/TRD pro. Order came in and helped him install it the same exact way I did mine. Worked perfectly fine as it should.

    To anyone with a 21-22 T4R, to make this install easier go ahead and buy the limited/TRD pro harness along with the XB headlights. Connect the harness like the instructions say BUT DO NOT plug the DRL fuse. Either tuck it away somewhere or plug it into a empty slot. Doing this will make it work like how its supposed to.

    This makes my lights work perfectly. I was having the stuck in high beam problem but my DRLS were working correctly. I have a 2022 Limited with the extra Limited harness. I left the harness wires from the fuse tap plugged into the lights but unplugged the fuse from the box and my high beams work correctly. Am I running any risk to the lights or vehicle by bypassing the fuse? What is the point of it?

    So I just heard back from Morimoto support and they told me that disabling the Daytime DRL in the 4Runner infotainment settings menu will solve the high beam issue. Haven’t tried it yet because my fuse tap wire isn’t hooked up.

    I imagine you could still run daytime DRL you would just have to turn them on and off manually.

    Mine has been left at the default ON position since the install. Your high beam issue sounds like you may have connected the incorrect wires together.

    I’m glad I found this thread. I’m hoping someone can help. I have a 2021 sr5 premium and I can’t get the high beam to work on the passenger side and when you switch to DRL only driver side amber/parking light works. Nothing on passenger side. I drive with the parking light mode and both amber lights work. I don’t believe the adapters are different but I haven’t looked that closely so I can check that but from what I read it’s a 2022+ issue. I didn’t see anyone post about the 2021 sr5 p so hopefully someone will chime in. I’m still waiting for Morimoto to write me back on how to trouble shoot this problem.

    I’ve probably read the thread 10 times by now in hopes of finding the solution. Tried swapping the adapters, pulling the drl tap, nothing has solved the issue. Pulling the tap made me lose the parking light on the driverside when switched to DRL so completely off. I’m lost. And morimoto won’t email me back. I guess I’ll call them on Monday but trouble shooting is best over email so I can follow the steps. I’m not around my 4Runner during their business hours.

    My lights don't come on when I switch to auto. I have moved my fuses around to efi 2 and the 10a inj slot. Still nothing. Drls come on when i have it switched above auto but the drls are dim. Also only one side drl works when in auto.. fml

    When I go two above auto the headlights come on. Also only my driver side bright comes on when I use the brights. Seems like a bad drl harness? Any help would be greatly appreciated

    This works great but isnt the whole point of a fuse to protect in case something happens?

    Although stock headlights do not have a fuse so does it matter? or am I wrong?

    Anyone electronically inclined who could chime in would be great!

    Yes, the headlights Do have fuses in the engine compartment fuse block.
    Most every circuit in the truck will have a fuse in it someplace. Especially the default circuits Toyota includes in the truck. Toyota, wisely, includes fuses everywhere. EVERY circuit in the vehicle really should have at least ONE fuse in it. It protects the circuit from damage, and the rest of the truck from fires caused by a short someplace.

    I spent my entire working career as a radar technician and Electronics Shop Supervisor. I have the Navy equivalent of a Bachelors Degree in Electronics Engineering (my credentials :) ).
    Trust me when I say that a fuse is a cheap protection for any circuit. Every individual circuit needs at least one. If a circuit splits off into two, each one should have a fuse in it.
    Like for example, you have an accessory circuit. Something that let's say feeds a couple of USB outlets. It will have a fuse in it. Now, you go to add a couple more USB outlets in the back seat. That circuit should have a fuse in it, down stream from the fuse that was already there.

    Headlights draw enough current that a fuse per bulb is an absolute necessity, especially the headlights that are NOT LEDs. Even so, the LED lights should have at least one fuse, if not one for each bulb. The engine fuse block has plenty of spare, empty, fuse slots that you can easily add a circuit, or three, each fused properly.

    For what its worth, I have been dealing with this same problem all week and came up with a fix. I have a 2022 TRD ORP with factory LED Lows and Halogen Hi + DRLs. After trying both harnesses and all sorts of combinations my solve was to use a TRD Pro harness + the DRL fuse tap, with the hi beam connector coming off the harness UNPLUGGED. This got the high beams working and the DRL tap kept the DRls working. Frustrating, but working.

    Could you do me a favor and confirm that your DRL halogen bulbs do in fact get brighter in high-beam mode? All the notes I've seen indicate that Toyota streamlined all 2022+ models to be the bi-LED headlights, but I realize that I've never confirmed this for myself. Thanks!

    Thanks for the reply. For some reason I’ve missed it and just seeing your response now.

    so like you said, the headlights do have fuses in the fuse box of the engine compartment.

    the add a fuse from Morimoto DRL is then just a way to add power to the DRL correct?
    If the add a fuse is not connected but power is still getting to the DRL (because of the weird wiring system on new model years by Toyota) then we technically don’t need to use it since the headlights are protected by the stock fuses.
    In other words, the add a fuse is not needed for protection and can remain disconnected like some have done in this thread. Or am I not understanding it correctly?
