Hi All! I'm new at the forum, living in Vancouver-BC used to have a FJ40 in the Past. Now i'm looking to a 2006 4Runner. I've asked the seller pictures of the frame for rust concerns.
I'd like to have opinions on this level of rust. Any of the pictures raise a red flag to you guys? Any sign of "more than surface Rust" ? Will it last 10 more years if i coat it regularly?
    Thanks in advance
    Daniel.

looks ok to me! Some rust on seams! Grind those spots down, paint, then fluid film, etc. I have seen a lot worse…

Thanks, yes my plan is to brush the worst spots and coat with fluid film. Was thinking to paint the Por-15 in the axles? What paint do you suggest?

I think it looks good for '06 I would ask for pictures of the rear cross member. If you go and check the vehicle out look at the gas tank straps bring a piece cardboard or plastic bags with a proper flashlight and look inside the vent and drain holes of the frame. The frame rust from the inside out.

There are many good products out there. My frame maintenance program consist a wire wheel on a drill , hand wire brush for hard to reach areas, Ospho rust neutralizer x2, Eastwood primer x2 ( x2 = 2 coats), Eastwood black Chassis paint x2 and Amsoil heavy duty metal protector x2.

Inside the frame I use Eastwood internal frame protector comes with a long hose and a pancake looking device to get inside the frame that pancake device sprays the wax in a 360 degree radius. I would take my time follow the direction use PPE especially with Ospho . I find every year I'm doing less maintenance on the frame because I build up a good layer.

I admit I'm ocd when it comes my frame maintenance. Use that rust on the frame as a bargaining chip. G.L.

I had someone put some POR 15 and then fluid film the welds on a new ORP last year then I put fluid film on whole thing. Unfortunately I think its just an annual or every other year maint item.

frame looks ok...given it's year....i would grind rust off, treat it, prime, paint, etc...and every year check underneath and repair as needed...should last another 10 years, easy
