Well, where ever you went, dont make the same thing happen there. Let California become a shit cesspool, but dont ruin the next place. Please dont let that happen.

I had a corporate job that transferred me to California for about 6 years. Other than the weather, I hated everything about it.
Thankfully, a previous employer offered me a 30% increase to come back and I landed where I'm at now. TG.

Born and raised in Socal during the 50's and 60's. Sill not too bad except for the politicians. But like I tell my brother, Orange County rednecks are NOT rednecks. Left (a Federal transfer with DOI) SoCal for Norcal, then eastern WA 25+ years ago. Here, we are considered the liberals! Too many road hunters in Utah!

California is one of the many, many, beautiful places to see. Not sure why everyone dislikes California. Other then gun laws, politics and traffic, its great. I love it here. I just dont like Northern California as much because its getting congested with too many people.

Best thing about California is the food and the $$$. 2 of my favorite things.

"Gun Laws, politics, traffic, Overcrowding and expensive."

Agreed, but I wont allow it to dictate my happiness. I make my choices and dictate My life and how I want to live it. "Gun Laws, politics, traffic, Overcrowding and expensive." these are just speed bumps or loose rocks on a path.

Just have to learn and adapt to the habitat.

Anyhow, I think Texas is a beautiful state was able to visit Dallas and other places around it. One thing I did want to do but wasn't able to was fish.

I'm being very sincere when I say; I'm grateful for people like you who are willing to adapt to all that. It's the same way I feel about those who choose to live in areas where winter is the dominant season.
I admire your willingness to persevere.

I think the reason California is so messed up is that over the years it just became too populated. I was born in San Diego in the mid 40s - I guarantee you it was the place to be until maybe the 70s - by that time Southern California was an asphalt jungle. On the other hand, parts of Northern California, like the Sierras, was great. I lived for many years in a town called Paradise which resembled Lake Tahoe, without the lake - it was beautiful until the entire town burnt to the ground several years ago. I loved to camp in Northern California, Oregon & Washington - it was just so pristine. Now I live in Central Florida which offers nothing for me in the way of camping - unless I was fond of mosquitoes, banana spiders, gators, moccasins....

Nice to visit but not for long!! Been away for almost 20 years until last fall. Figured I and my brother and dear friends aren't long for this world, so we went back. Sure has changed! I remember when the area around Knott's Berry Farm was bean and berry fields. Watched a cow give birth along Cherry Ave/Garfield in South Gate. Dad remembered catching white sea bass off of Redondo Pier and I caught legal barracudas off of Belmont Pier.

Have a family reunion coming up in Vegas and detouring to Buena Park and Victorville. Looking forward to visiting but would never live there again.

Remember Cal Worthington and his "dog" Spot?

What annoys me about many of these anti-California inet trolls (not on this thread, specifically) is that they've never actually even been to California. They just regurgitate their FOX news talking points: Kommiefornia, high taxes, gun control, let it slide into the ocean, blah blah blah.

I say to them: Spend some time there before you render judgement. I lived there for 5 years and made both a specific decision to move there and to move from there.

Thus, I feel qualified to offer commentary on the place. It's simultaneously great and terrible. It has its benefits and its problems. I ended up feeling like the problems outweighed the benefits after five years, but I also was a cop and that job was incredibly frustrating and damn near pointless out there. That didn't take away from the enjoyment I got from the weather, outdoor opportunities, and raw beauty of the place. If I had been in a different line of work, and my kids in Ohio hadn't started whelping out grandbabies, I might still be out there.

Absolutely - he was a southern Cal icon for many years, but Betty White was a lot easier on the eyes back in the day..

California - some highlights if you've never been there:

    Northern Cal: The Sierras
    Central Cal: Yosemite
    Southern Cal: GLAMIS!

Oh, I failed to mention the Bay Area...... okay - that was intentional.

San Diego is actually where I would like to retire if not potentially move my whole family. I love it there. If I grew up in SD I dont know how I could ever leave.

I’ve lived in Southern California all my life. Still have one kid in high school. As soon as she’s off to college, the wife and I are outa here. We have the “where should we move” conversation twice a week.

    :D:D:D

I just spent a day with my 7 yo nephew. He was telling me all about that time I took him on that motorcycle ride. I had no idea what he was talking about (sold the bike last year, hadnt ridden it for longer).

Then he reminded me he was holding the handle bars. Then a faint memory fizzed into my head of taking him up and down our dead-end street, plopped down in front of me against the gas tank. He couldnt have been more than three. In his mind it he described it as if it were a terrifying majestic ride through the countryside with his crazy uncle. I am most definitely not a crazy uncle, but I still made the list.

I’m pretty sure there’ll be meefza statues in at least one of their back yards

    But, Spot was always entertaining!

I was visiting my brother in Fairfield (east Bay area) and we had been drinking a little when Cal came on the TV late night; seems he'd gotten a divorce and was starting over in NorCal (Sacramento). Took us totally by surprise!!

Ain’t that the truth! Damn shame so many folks are taking things so seriously they don’t have a working sense of humor anymore which is needed now more than ever…
