Slap a 3" lift kit on that Acura, maybe some 35s. Do some serious mall crawling.

So what yer sayin is, it’s also gonna be a “no” on sweet jumps? No thanks, my vehicle has to be able to do stairs, curbs, and jump sweetly, non-negotiable ;):p

On a serious note, I used to get all righteous that SUVs became road-only vehicles…why not just get a nice sports sedan I thought. Then I kind of realized that people didnt want sedans anymore. They basically just went out of style.

Maybe that happened because there were so many SUVs on the road that you couldnt see the road anymore if you were in a sedan. I know that I certainly liked seeing traffic better when we got our Highlander. If you are in a concert and everybody stands up, you’re gonna have to stand up. Or complain about it…but that’s just pissing into the wind.

This is just to say that I get why MDXs, Cayennes, sporty Range Rovers, Grand Cherokee Trackhawks, etc are a thing. Sedans are no longer the prototypical “car” form factor. SUVs are. So you are bound to get the variety of trims/focus in SUVs that sedans had in the olden days.

However, I still get angry seeing what G-Wagons have become.

Before SUVs or crossovers became the default vehicle for everyone, I wanted a Trailblazer SS. Or a Typhoon before that. It used to be a super niche market, but I freaking loved that niche.

I don't want to answer for the OP, but I'll bet reliability is a factor. :D

Edit: Or, it could have something to do with the $24K price difference.

True but it really makes more sense for the Op to buy a sports car or sports sedan.

Or the OP can just do what I did, get both. I couldn't decide so I went sports sedan then a year later 4Runner. But I made sure to get the Pro so I wouldn't get chirped by you with all the soccer mom/mall crawler stuff...

Yeah. I’m not getting a Trackhawk lol. I’ve had a Grand Cherokee before and fit and finish was a huge issue along with it spending a shot ton of time in the shop

It really doesn’t. First, I’m 6”3. The days of me wanting to crawl into a sedan are long gone. Also, the amount of equipment I need to carry with me for work just isn’t going to fit in a sedan realistically, nor do I want to be digging in a trunk at all.

Hmm. That’s strange. I just test drove the Type S yesterday and it’s extremely quiet compared to my pro exhaust + OEM nittos. The 25 speakers though would probably drown out any noise though anyway lol

I agree. I just don't see the purpose of a 300-500hp "sports" SUV/crossover/whatever it is... it's a complete oxymoron to me. For $70k, I certainly wouldn't consider a soccer mom mobile (even with 'S' in the trim description, there's no denying it) to be my "fun" car, even if it had 1000hp and racing stripes. To me, the Porsche Cayennes, Audi SQs, MDX in this case, etc. have no reason to exist aside from the fact that people will buy them for one reason or another.

To the OP, do what's best for you and makes you happy. After all, it's your money and happiness!

Well, with that idea, technically our 4runners are soccer mom rides too. We can mod the crap out of them but they still are suvs. Offroad or not, it's still a niche enthusiast suv that's capable of doing things most SUVs can. Same can be said for a performance niche for an Suv. It's just a different direction.

I see the point of both. I enjoy both extremes to be honest, but in the end, this also is a daily driver for me and the MDX Type S fulfills a different niche I still feel a need to scratch.

I'll upload a couple of pics of the possible new aquisition.

Yeah, that's fair, although I've always considered the 4Runner to be purposely built for off-road, but it happens to also work as a soccer mom ride. The high powered crossovers on the other hand seem to be designed as a soccer mom ride, then they throw a 500hp motor in it and it happens to also be fast.

It's just not my thing, although, my other vehicle is a 2010 Honda Pilot so I really shouldn't talk smack about soccer mom rides. One day I'll own another fast car though!

On a somewhat related note, I was just on a shuttle from Torres Del Paine to the bus station earlier today and the driver was showing his impressive rally driving skills in the 10 person van we were in. It was scary but kinda fun!

They are all different animals, heck if you are fully funded get both and just drive which ever suits your fancy on a given day.

It’s not like your 4R is going to lose value quickly. I don’t think many see the shortages, inflation, or gas prices going down anytime soon. So I think it’s safe bet you can sell your 4R any day of the week for a solid price for the foreseeable future.

I tried that. Tried convincing the wife to trade in her boring AF SUV and giving her the pick of either the pro or Acura for a DD. She loves-her ride too much unfortunately lol

Coming from a single never married guy I would advise to let your wife drive whatever she wants. I used to advise my ex girlfriend on what vehicle to get looking at practicality, reliability, residual value etal. She kept wanting these GM vehicles as a lease and they were always a POS. But her family worked there and she wanted support them.

So I just sat back and had to watch her make the same mistakes over a few times. She asked my advice but did not really want it. Having an argument over a car is crazy.

I find it funny though that people especially with family who work for an auto company are so loyal.

My Dad worked for Ford and I was trapped in that thought process until I got screwed twice and no more. Anyway I digress.

Good luck with the decision dude

I really like that segment. If you need an SUV for practicality be it the storage space or whatever, I'd rather have it with 500hp than 250...

Before I bought my new 22 Camry XSE I checked with my local Acura and Honda dealer there charging 3500 over msrp even for repeat customers. Was thinking a Honda Accord for my car for work. No thank you I will stay with my 22Camry. My wife’s 21 Acura is very nice. Has 11000 miles on it since new and has been great. I drive it and can see why she did not want a 4Runner. Me I like the beast’s but for her. She can zip around in that thing.

All else equal, I'd prefer 500hp over 250hp as well. I guess I'm just more into specialization rather than general purpose. If I want something fast, it's going to be ready for the track. If I want something for off road it's got to be the real deal. If I want to haul groceries, my wife, and my dogs, I get a Honda Pilot. That's just how I roll, but I'm probably the odd duck in that respect.

If I had $70k to spend on whatever car(s) I wanted, I'd probably have a Honda S2000 and the 4Runner.
