Exactly what I did, except I have the black steel version. That oil drain hole and filter plate make a WORLD of difference for an oil change.

I don't have any issues like what you mention. The oil drops straight down. No mess, unless I make it myself.

Have you confirmed if the fumoto valve fits under the skid? If the valve fits under and is protected by the skid, then I am SOLD on the RCI

I have not. I can look later, as I did not drive the 4R to work today...

I've read of numerous installs on the CTH skid that went just like yours. The question still remains, though, whether the CTH skid can be installed on a KDSS-equipped 4R the same way you describe. I believe, and could be wrong, that the two support bars under the oem skid on an OR with KDSS are different, and may not allow the installation as you describe.

It doesn't really matter to me, as I sold the CTH skid and got an RCI, but those who want the CTH skid for their KDSS rig would want to know.

I'm not familiar with the kdss components so I wouldn't know what's needed for the install. But I'm guessing with a little modifications, the skids should fit. If I remember correctly there was a video I saw where a gentleman cut/modified his trd skid plate to fit the kidss vehicle. Don't remember if he left the 2 brackets on or off either. I never finished the video as it didn't interest me. lol

I got the KDSS version of the CTH skid when I had it, and it fit fine, just not without taking off the two braces, as far as I could see.

According to this install link, the two support braces needed to be removed to install the oem TRD skid on a KDSS 4R after the skid was modified:

Yep this is exactly why I didn't get the CTH one. I wish I could get this one but with KDSS on my rig, removing the brackets makes me nervous.

i actually got rid of my oem TRD skid plate and replaced it with a car trim home because i do frequent oil changes and was tired of removing the entire skid plate. The CTH bolted up exactly the same as the OEM. The construction was basically identical. The panel for the oil filter is huge, makes poil changes much easier.

Did your trd logo fit and align pretty good or are they slightly off centered?

There's no question that the CTH skid is the preferred skid for oil changes. It's whether or not it fits a KDSS-equipped vehicle without having to remove components to install it that is the question. You don't specify what you have, so...

    BTW, welcome to the forum.

I bought the CTH skid plate and the TRD letters that came with it did not align. I contacted CTH about it and they sent me another letter set but those had the same issue.

I had to buy TRD letters without the pins in the back, off EBAY, and put those on the skid plate instead.

Ok I thought it was only mine w/ that issue. The problem isn’t the letter but skid plate itself. Machining was off when they manufactured it. I didn’t want to spend additional $$ so I made it work with what I got.

I think without the pins in the back, idk how sturdy it is with just double sided tape. It will get all banged up here and there and with all sort of dirt it will pick up while driving too??

Yea I agree. The issue is the skid plate machining.

That was my concern too but the double sided tape is holding up so far. No peeling at all.

How'd you deal with the lettering issue?

I still used the double sided tape (got it to stick as best as possible). Once the letters were popped in, from the backside I used small zip ties and tied the pins crossing from one pin to the other. I did this to all 3 letters and every pin. It should not come loose unless the zip ties gets cut and adhesive

I have the RCI aluminum skid and the short Fumoto without issue. I’m tempted to switch it for a long Fumoto because the hose slips off the short.

Thank you....mine is Not KDSS. I was just attesting to the fit & finish being comparable to OEM in my application.

The red letters are slightly off the indentations on the skid plate but it was negligible to me. the clips align and i havent had an issue in almost a year.

I've asked somewhere before, but how difficult is it to cut a hole in OEM skid plate and make a cover for it?

With the right tools, very simple!! If you want a hole, just get a drill and hole-saw and go to town. Will it look nice? Probably not! Will it work, absolutely! You'll need a pretty decent sized hole in order to access the filter.

Depends where you live. I live in Ca and their warehouse is in Ca. which is roughly 15-20mins from me. They were nice enough and allowed me to do a pick up. Took about a day or two for them to process my order and I picked it up within that same week. Message them on FB (if you have it) and you can always ask them. He was very responsive and replied very quick.

City of Industry/Baldwin Park area. Also if the product says "US Stock" on their website, it's 99% at this same warehouse.

I was planning on getting the TRD skid w/o KDSS from CTH .. I plan on buying different color letters (ebay, tufskinz etc etc) even though on CTH it shows a sample pic of black TRD letters.. I also plan on painting the skid black.. plan to learn and start doing my own oil changes if/when I have time..

When I had the CTH skid and also contemplated painting it black, I was going to leave the letters off altogether. Plastic letters on an aluminum skid seemed silly. You could also tape off the letter indents and paint them another color besides the black.

If you don't add the lettering, how would you hide/cover up the drilled holes in the indentions? I too didn't want the red TRD logo but I couldn't figure out a way to hide those pre-drilled holes without spending time and more money.
