I have a 2016 TRD Pro that has a completely stock suspension and stock TRD Pro 7” wheels. I picked up a Westcott lift, but the two very reputable shops around here are backed up so I decided to go ahead and put my tires on; Falken Wildpeak 285 70 R17 p-metric. I took the mudflaps off as a precaution, but that’s all I’ve done. I’m happy to report I’m not having any rubbing at full lock in reverse. I went with P-metrics because this rig is on road 98% of the time, if you can call the “roads” around Chicago roads. That and the P-metrics weigh 51# each and the C’s are 64#, that’s a lot more rolling mass I don’t need not to mention they would give me a noticeable stiffer ride. In any case, most of what I read on the internet says 285’s won’t fit a stock Pro without major rubbing, but that’s not true in my case. I would not recommend doing a lot of off-roading like this, but I glad I won’t have problems while I wait for my lift to be installed.

Btw…..I had no idea new tires could make such a difference in how people look at a vehicle, I rarely got any comments from strangers with the stock Nitto’s…..now, I’m getting comments of how “nice my ride” looks often and noticing turning heads when I park. Kind of funny.

Nice! Glad to hear that. I am thinking of putting 275/70/17 on my stock pro and was worried about clearance. Sounds like I might be okay.

I can’t see why you would have any problems with 275’s, they should fit a Pro with no issues at all.

Any chance you were able to reverse full locked and cycle the suspension? Top of the travel is where you would rub especially with the already lifted height of a pro. Lifts don’t actually do anything to allow larger tires, they just place the tire lower in relation to its travel range.

Reverse while in full lock or turn and hit a bump while in full lock and get back to me.

Yeah, I get it, and I’m sure if I was able to full flex the front and then go to full lock in reverse it would rub somewhere, which is why I said I would not recommend off-roading like this. It works for me on road though, especially considering it’s only for a short time until I get the lift installed and I don’t often drive in reverse on bumpy roads :) Fortunately, backing out of my garage or parking spaces around town doesn’t flex the front suspension.

Got the Westcott lift installed yesterday. Chi Town 4x4 did a spectacular job on the install, he has it down to a science. It gave me just the amount of lift I was looking for and it rides great with less nose dive under braking. I wanted to retain the factory Bilstein shocks on this ‘16 Pro since it only has 33k miles on it and it’s my daily driver. Eibach does not offer a Pro spring only kit for the Bilstein Pro’s, only the ‘19 + Fox shocked Pro’s, so Westcott was the best option. Anyway, here are the before and after pictures.

I have 285's with pro wheels and do some rock-crawling, I do not rub, no matter full lock reverse on inclines/declines rocky-boulder like trails.

I am looking to put LT285/70/17 toyo open country load C range on my stock Trd pro/stock pro wheels and see how it goes. Anyone think I will have issues on a 2021 trd pro? I see that the bumper and fender has already been slightly trimmed at port.

My backup plan would be to order the eibach pro springs if needed.

I put 285/70R17 Load C K02s on stock 7.5" wheels on my TRD ORP, Lifted a little, King 2.5 extended reservoir adjustable shocks, SPC UCAs. I'm not getting rubbing, but I haven't really flexed yet. After I get my winch bumper/winch and sliders on, then I'll test it out. But so far no obvious rubbing.

Give it a try, these things all seem to be slightly different in regards to rubbing with 285’s. I had to take the front mud flaps off, but that was it. It worked well on the road, I’m not sure I would want to offroad much that way.

What would fit a 2022 4Runner TRD Pro without rubbing?

I ordered the Westcott Designs lift but then found out it could void warranty coverage. Westcott called me and said they stand behind their products but everyone knows the fingers will be pointing as to who caused the issue if something failed so I cancelled the lift kit. Thx for the input

Safer bet would be 275/70/17 tires if you don't want to modify the suspension or rub.

Just be aware that rim does not meet the manufacturer's minimum requirements for that size tire. (yes, I know, lots of people do it. just because you can doesn't mean you should though...also, something about if all those other people jumped off a bridge, would you?).

Definitely getting different rims. But need that level first. In the meantime, slapping on replacement 265/70/17's for now
