I have been noticing when I get in the 4 runner after it sitting a bit maybe even every restart that there is a single click or noise that is present after I shift into gear and hit the gas. That first step on the gas to go it makes the noise and only that time. Seeing if this is normal or not before I bring it up at my dealer to avoid someone ripping my column apart for no reason. Thanks!

Mine has done that since new too.

it’s like a spring popping sound from the top of steering column when you first put it in gear and start moving. No clue what it is.

I think this sound has been noticed by others here on the forum.

Interesting glad I am not the only one. I thought it was the change moving in my cup for the longest time and when the cup was no longer there...bam. Another thing to wonder about.

I was curious on it because I drove a lot of vehicles in my life and never encountered such a thing on any one of them. Never know these days if something like that is a issue or a normal operation.

The cabin pressure vents are kind of in that corner, so it’s the tool kit for changing tires. Maybe one or the other is loose.

Sounds like you are describing the ABS system initialising. They all do that, and so do other cars with ABS. Some are quieter than others, and some are more unique sounding than others. Differences in sound between cars probably due to location and design of brake system, abs pump etc.

Ive heard the 4runner abs initialization described as a crunching sound, with a click, and touch of rustling plastic shopping bag thrown in.

My 2006 Sienna was a bit quieter and less complex sounding. My 1999 Accord sounded like a click with a hollywood robot sound throw in.

It's happening in mine, which is new. I've never heard it in any vehicle before. This is an ABS thing? Anyone hear any different? Anything get resolved?

The sound I get after start and backing out, when the truck begins moving forward there is a sound, in my mind sort of like an actuator, that makes a quick sound and then off. It has always done that, and I believe the owner manual mentions it. Therefore, it is normal. In my 2019 Owner Manual it is page 269 Section 4.5 Using the Driving Support Systems

ABS self-check, happens when you first exceed a certain speed after startup (either driving forward or in reverse). Be concerned if you DON'T hear it
