Hi all, I wanted to introduce myself as well as share the plan for my first 4Runner. I am certainly open to everyone's thoughts and advice.

I ordered a '22 Lunar Rock ORP in Dec and it finally hit the Houston Port today (3/17). I expect to take delivery within 3-7 days. Although, I did not order the Offroad Wheel/Tire/Step-up package for $3K the dealer told me that the truck that got "allocated" to me comes with it but said they could remove it, hopefully they hold true to that. Beyond that, its the exact spec I wanted. Also, I thought it would be worth mentioning they quoted me MSRP although they did not want to talk specific pricing back in Dec, sort of freaks me out but I have my financing setup with my bank already and have a paid off trade-in if that helps my case at all. I agreed to a $500 deposit in Dec but the dealer said they rarely actually charge it and I was never charged.

    Suspension:
After doing tons of reading on here I decided a Bilstein 5100 set would fit my needs, I found the 4 shocks brand new in the box on Facebook and snagged them which saved me some $. Would it be realistic to negotiate the dealer to install these, (this will be my first car purchase through a dealer)? I'm thinking the 1.75'' option in the front, I'm not entirely opposed to a little reserve rake as long as its not horribly obvious.

    Wheels/Tires:

    https://www.oempartsource.com/oem-parts/toyota-4runner-trd-pro-wheel-2021-ptr5689210f2
    https://www.oempartsource.com/oem-parts/toyota-4runner-trd-pro-center-cap-2021-pt28089210f2

Planning on picking these up here soon, seems like a good deal. Does anyone have any concerns with the website? Then I'd have Discount Tire throw on 265/70/17 KO2s and be done with it. (Going this route would certainly be cheaper than the Toyota $3k package and I prefer these wheels over the old TRD Wheels.) From here I'd sell the stock TRD-Offroad wheels/tires.

Again, thanks for all the resources and I look forward to officially joining the 4Runner club.

Until an expert comment I will give my opinion.

I think you can get TRD Pro wheels and tires less than 3K. Plus you get to keep the TRD ORP wheels and stock tires. When you sell them you can get about $500 for tires and about 350-400 for wheels.

Me personally have more respect for TRD ORP wheels as they are wider than TRD Pro wheels that allow you to mount bigger tires like 285/70R17 with in spec. Yes many owners have mount 285s on TRD Pro wheels though they are not approved.

If you are lifting your 4R with Bilstien5100 I would not waste money on 265KO2. I would go 285 with little trimming on bumper. I didn't have fancy tools, can use a utility knife.

Get expert advice but for now as an amateur I would say buy as is from dealer. Buying running boards are a good thing though but not predator steps especially if you have a kid or doggo. Predator steps are useless for a doggo. If you want to buy TRD Pro wheels shop online Toyota dealers or even FB Market place or this forum itself as I see many sell them.

From looking at my '22 ORP, a 1.75" lift in the front would give you a negative rake. I think the rear wheel opening is cut higher than the front so it gives the illusion of more rake than there really is. The frame would be pretty close to level at around 1" front lift but the problem is that if you load up your car, you would probably end up with a negative rake. The Pro comes lifted 1", but I think they put a stiffer rear spring in. I think Mike at Exit Offroad said the no lift rear spring he sells (c59-323) is the same rate as the Pro rear springs at 220 lbs and I read somewhere the stock spring is somewhere around 180-185 (might be way off on this).

And Kemeeg who posted above who seems to know a lot about 4Rs forgot to mention about the TSS and lifting/leveling. :)

Congratulations. Mine came off the boat on January 10th, and finally landed at the dealership on February 4th. The dealership is 1½ hours from the port. So take their estimate with a grain of salt.

Aha..!! Good point. As per the 4x4 shop I go to recommends to keep factory rake for 2020+ 4Runners with TSS-P. May be can use a spacer on stock rear spring to bring back rear up, may be. (I'm using stock spring with a spacer in rear with Bilstien5100.)

congrats on the ORP! lunar orps are definitely pretty rare around here. ive only seen 2-3 so far in the Frisco-Plano-McKinney area.

as far as installing the shocks go, i'd compare prices shops around town. overland outfitters, tandem offroad, tread depot are some of the more reputable shops for 4runner/taco guys in the dfw area.

i'd skip the 265s and go straight to 285s and do some trimming if you're going to install shocks out the gate.

My personal experience. Truck is a 22 ORP no KDSS. I didn't want to replace the entire suspension and only wanted a slight leveled look without breaking the bank. Wanted to keep the truck riding as close to stock as possible so I purchased some used take off coilovers from a 3rg gen tacoma OR, installed it and got around 1.5" of lift to the front. Left the rears as is. Doing this did not interfere with my TSS sensor. I'm happy with the ride and look.

Measurements are as follow from center of hub to bottom of fender.
    Before
    Driver front = ~20"
    Passenger front = ~20.25"
    Driver rear = ~22.25"
    Passenger rear = ~22.25"

    After
    Driver front = ~21.5"
    Passenger front = ~21.625

I bought my trd pro wheels from bam wholesale. Their shipping price was cheaper so the overall price was lower from them for me.

I got nitto ridge grapplers from discount tire. My total out there door price for wheels and tires installed were under 2k.

I was able to sell my stock ORP wheel and tires for about 750 without the tpms. Total out the door was about 1300 after selling the ORP wheels and tires.

Why not just buy the aftermarket eBay TRD Pro style wheels? A tad wider to support wider tires. I have no regrets with my eBay purchase.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. Turns out right after I made this post yesterday I got a call from the dealer saying my 4Runner had arrived (a week earlier than estimated). I went and picked it up as soon as I could. They had removed all the packages I didn't want which was great. I really just wanted the MTM.

I was a little worried about the Ebay Pro-Style wheels at first but glad you had a good experience, I'll look into that.

Regarding tires, I really did not want to have to trim anything and I prefer the less is more look after seeing a few preowned TRD Pros on the lot yesterday up close. I think just a level would fit my needs.

I will look into the stiffer springs for the rear, that may need to happen depending on how my first tow of the boat goes, although its only about 1K lbs.

I've ordered blackout emblem overlays so far. Will continue to update. Thanks again everyone for the feedback.

    Excellent, congrats!

I agree with you about sticking to the stock sized tires, if you don't plan on off-roading it, there's really no benefit to it (other than looks).

To me, there's more downsides; not counting off-road performance, it'll negatively impact every performance aspect of your vehicle, acceleration, breaking, MPG. And also, you may find yourself trimming bits off your brand new $50,000 vehicle, which a lot of people are just not ready to do.

Going from the factory 265 which is basically a car tire, to a 265 aggressive AT is a big difference. When I went from my stock tires to my General Grabber ATX, I had to check the sidewall because I thought they had gone up a size, because they looked so much bigger.

I agree with others, I would keep the factory rake. A negative rake would just be an absolute no-go for me, if it's slightly negative when you're just sitting there, as soon as you load stuff in, you're now going to be driving around in a squatted 4Runner.

Whatever you do, good luck with it and enjoy!

Ditto on this ^ You can get a better, beefier look -- and much better traction and utility -- by going with an excellent AT tire in stock size. Not sure what the OEM tire is on your rig, but it's probably not good. OEM tires are typically one of the weakest part of a vehicle.

As @Trail Runnah says, upsizing is pretty much all negatives unless you need the extra ground clearance. You've worsened MPG and acceleration, and made wheel balancing even harder than it already is. Other than ground clearance / off roading and looks, the only other thing you gain from upsizing is a more accurate MPH reading. Since like most vehicles the 4R speedo tends to show about 1-3% higher than actual.

This is a Limited, but here is an example of how beefy tires can look in stock size when you go to something more aggressive. These are E Load Michelin Cross Climates.

I vinyl wrapped it at first but then ripped the vinyl when stretching it. Ran out of materials and got frustrated so I just ordered the trd pro one. My rear valence however is wrapped and my hood scoop is wrapped. Both looks good except for one slight wrinkle to the valence.

Check out @Factory Style Wheels. They are a vendor here, they sell a very high quality “flow formed” Pro replica that is light weight and has a couple nice offsets to pick from. Check out the Wheel/Tire section and there is an ongoing thread with information and pictures.
