I am about to buy the oem headlight assembly from 2022 TRD Pro to install them into my 2016 Trail Edition. Does anyone know if this is possible? Will they fit fine?

I would take a look at a quality retrofit. Coming from a Tacoma with a good factory LED to whatever they put in this thing it’s night and day.

A quality retrofit would probably cost about the same as the swap and you would get a better output.

They will bolt right up and fit fine but the problem is the wiring. 2022's take a 3 pin connector for the headlight as it's a BI-LED and a one pin connector for the DRL/inboard lights which is run at half voltage now and is not the high beam like before. Better to find 2021's,non Pro that still had the two 2 pin connectors and pretty sure are plug and play. I retrofitted Morimoto MLED 2.0's in my 3rd gen and they are actually better then my 22 ORP's ,especially on high beams and none of that Shadows/dark spots that the new Toyotas have.

I wonder if 2021 TRD ORP headlight assembly is better than TRD Pro as TRD ORP has separate highbeam and DRL on 9005 bulb? (Vs TRD Pro has both low and high on same projector housing)

I too love to try it for my 2019 if I get OEM one looks new. Don't want after market ones and mess with fuse taps for DRLs.

i’ve wondered about this. Do you have any night shots comparing the two (MLED and OEM)?

No, I don't have any night shots.... yet. Caesar at Lightwerks has brackets for the older 5th Gens so the MLED's bolt right up. The Pain comes when you have to take the lens off . I retrofitted s2k HID's in my last 5th gen and were hard to separate, but doable. Just have to be patient.

2021 non pro's headlights are the best oem 4Runner lights IMO.

Have a 2021 ORP. They are fantastic! I got rid of the halogen DRL. Went with Led and a PM controller setup to still run then with SV4’s. The high beams are outrageously bright. The low beam are great in my opinion and I see the weird cutoff but it makes sense for oncoming traffic. I cheated a bit and adjusted the height up a snitch.

It used to not be so bad, but in recent years, I feel like it has gotten harder and harder to pull the lights apart.
